OT: The Food & Drinks Thread (Part 5)

Had a smoothie sour yesterday that tasted like a liquid dessert. Pineapple and pineapple ice cream flavor. Wished I took a pic in retrospect.
It’s at Pub Brewskey, then. What’s the concoction called on their menu?

Found this pic on their website:

Is it the 2nd drink from the right?

You mentioned Messorem. Curious to hear your opinion on their IPAs. They're pretty darn good to me.

Terrific micropub, consistent quality, a little far from my place to go regularly BUT I've never been disappointed with their beers. I think they trounce Dieu du Ciel in my humble opinion.

I used to live right next door to Brewskey so it was my local haunt, I think they've rapidly become a terrific micropub in their own right; their smoothie sours are my favorites and constantly evolving, though I wish they would do their Triple and Quad IPAs again, those were a fun ride. Owners happened to have a baker to make their breads and he eventually opened a bakery next door, they're the ones doing those NY Rolls:

I had no idea about their bakery. I did check out their beers a few times, was slightly disappointed with their IPAs, just a tad below Messorem. Their smoothies are definitely solid and I need to taste test a few more as I've missed out on a few of them. Appreciate your input, cheers!

Messorem is one of the best microbrew in quebec. They are awesome all over.
I've had some Bas-Canada and Sir Johns from my local beer store but I notice theres a difference when going directly to messorem, beers are just fresher and crisper. I assume its the same if I went to sir johns and bas canada, i just did not have time to make the trip. Any other breweries u suggest near Montreal? Unfortunately I have not had time to do any research. Curious to hear any suggestions.

St-Bock is the shangri-la of micros, IMO.
Réservoir has good beer and I love their approach to food.
Others:
Harricana
Mellon
Etoh
Quatre-Origines is nice, ish.
Siboire too.
Siloh

Theres other classics like Dieu du ciel, Cheval Blanc, Isle De garde that are sure values.

Not montreal but Dunhan and Farnham have good selections IMO. The former is much more advanced in their brewing.
Trou du diable was nice before they sold, Im not sure anymore.
Pit Caribou is a classic.

Off the top of my head.

Im not much into beer anymore, upsets my stomach a lot, but this is it mainly.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. looks like I will be busy over the next few weekends :)

During intermission at a recent event they served some great canapes and Kir Royale cocktails, very nice but I would not order or make them for myself, not keen of drinking from flutes.

I don't know how people can afford to go out and eat these days. I simply cannot afford it. 1 meal and drinks is a week of groceries.
Too old to do the ''dine and dash'' method?lol.

In Chambly for a funeral tomorrow, what's the best brunch in the Chambly area? I know L'Oeufrier is pretty good, any hidden gems?

Think I got ''roofied'' when we went to an Irish pub for St.Paddys, just starting to feel fine. The pub grub was pretty good, came with a Guinness. all these years and still have difficulty with it. Haven't mixed so many different drinks and shots in forever! Pretty sure it was from the Americans that got me as there were a handful from Long Island NY. lol.

I bought smoked herring (not canned). I could smell the aroma through the plastic wrapped tray, it was quite pungent. It was more of an odour than an aroma but it got me intrigued.

The fish mongerer told me it could be eaten as is or grilled or in the oven. I’ve never tried this product before and was wondering if any of you had recipes to suggest.

Found this one that recommends it in a cream cheese sandwich: Smoked Herring on Toast With Cream Cheese

Herring would act as lox replacement. If I’m going to do that, I might as well buy fresh bagels.

Any suggestions?

So, I went to JUNGSIK in Seoul. 2 stars, expensive but reasonable honestly (bill came down to about $220 for the lunch meal, without wine pairing). I'll post more pics when I'm home this weekend but that was the first course (based on Korean banchans)

So I made some Ham. My dad told me I should make some pea soup with that stock. I should make one tomorrow. Now. Will I be eating this by myself or not? Turns out my family got Covid the last few days :(

Turns out smoked herring, smoked salmon and Philly cream cheese blend together beautifully between two slices of toast.

Now all I need to do is replace the toast by hot from the oven bagels from Fairmount.

I've been kinda hungry for the whole day (mostly from the aromas at home). Now I kinda wish for a bagel, cream and smoked fish. I almost have everything at home.. but not those bagels. I can almost smell them hot coming from an oven

On the subject of microbrewery I feel I need to mention Vices & Versa. They don’t brew their own beer but they have the best selection in Montreal, including Dunham and sometimes even Auval!

Out of town Dunham is certainly worth a visit, and in Montreal like what was said Messorem and Brewskey make really great IPAs. Beside them, both Benelux and Ma Brasserie offer great choices.
