You honestly think, based on all his surgeries he has had and him out just out for a casual skate last week, can rehab and strength training in a month?

I think the number that was out there was four to eight weeks, and that’s to get back to playing after a procedure like this. So, in terms of rehabbing and training and continuing to feel better, that break is going to be very short.”
That quote from him was on Jan 10, two months ago. So he was doing rehab then, and was likely doing it well before then.

It's pretty obvious that the timeline is the issue and it's going to be a lot murkier when you're rehabbing multiple different injuries and basically guessing on the severity of rehab for each of them.

This Is why I made this thread. Lot's of and takes here, some good takes, but something isn't making sense.
There are a few posters that haven't said anything I'd like to hear their takes!!!
HOW IS IT MURKY. We are talking about 3 regular season games. Even if he's ready for 3 freaking games he needs to sit to and take one for the team.
As of now (if we don't use his space) I am going with this just being an excuse as to why we don't add. And it's a bullshit excuse. If Management doesn't want to add or spend assets it's a great cop out.

To the bolded, how do we know that isn’t what he’s doing? Maybe he is all of that (in best shape and ready) and it’s at game 79 though and not 83. So then he should just take a “vacation”?
Alternately, how about this scenario:
So if he said OK Bowman, I am not coming back until I’m 100% healthy, which allows the team to spend his LTIR, then the team gets hit with a rash of injuries in the play offs, and they say hey Evander, are you ready to play we really need you and he says no man, I’m only at 97%. I could play but I told you I wasn’t coming back until I was fully healed. You will have to wait until I’m 100. You will be ok with that? I can only imagine the post count on the site of people pissed that he didn’t “man up” and get into the game.
I realize it’s a silly bugger argument I’m making, but what I am saying is that it’s a somewhat subjective situation. He has to have professional medical assurances/be cleared that he has healed and he has to mentally and physically feel that he is ready and rehabbed and has restored his fitness to the point of being able to play at a level requisite for a professional athlete. If that means he is good to go on game 79, it is just that. A pro athlete, ready and healthy to play.
I think we both can agree that this entire situation is brought on by the NHL being unwilling to clarify and tighten up the process around LTIR, and salary management. I do wonder if they choose to leave it purposely nebulous for legal reason, given the murky nature of “proving” that a player has healed AND is rehabbed. With Eichel’s earlier situation they opened it up to athletes being in control of their personal health decisions, which I agree with but has further complicated this entire issue.

It's murky because he could be healthy or he might not. Having a whole batch of injuries makes it complicated.
I don't know why you're getting so upset over something that is just pure speculation by guys being paid to get listeners/readers. There hasn't been anything credible saying Kane wants to rush back early to spite the Oilers.
Ok great we add Kane to the lineup and he helps. Answer me these 3 questions please.
Why he can't sit out the final 3 regular season games so we can use his cap space?
Tell me why him getting up to speed in 3 games is better than us using his space and adding to the roster.
Tell me why we can't run this line up and add a winger for Leon and have Kane sit out until playoffs.

Suddenly everything falls into place if management is not idiotic. Hell the Winger for Leon can be freaking Ryan Donato or Kyle Palmieri and everything falls into place. We can't score and if we run this low end goaltending this actually gives us a chance.

- He’s healthy and ready to play
He’s on the active roster, no matter what game # it is (or he’s waived or traded)

I'm not mad at Kane and we should wait until after the deadline to voice our concern, but that said we can still speculate with 2 days to go. It's a chat board and sitting on our thumbs is not the answer.
What I am mad at is management. Our window to win is so small and last year they add Adam "freaking" Henrique. (potentially cost us a cup) This year if we don't use Kane's space and improve the roster they have somehow managed it worse than last year. It's inexcusable.
Look at every contender improving and then look at us giving away Holloway for a 3rd round pick. It's beyond ludicrous.

It’s not that hard to give management the confirmation that you won’t do anything to jeopardize their plans.
Evander Kane does not care If he legally cheats the system and sits out 3 freaking games. Let's be real here the guy is a degenerate black jack player that lives on the edge. We aren't talking about 20 games, it's 3 games. There is more to the story.
I'm trying to dig deeper here and find out why management doesn't want to add. Why management thinks running garbage goalies year over year is ok, Why management got rid of Holloway, Why management signed Jeff Skinner. Why they hand out NMC like it's Halloween.
It's an absolute joke not to go for it this year. The Oilers, Mcdrai, Fans will all pay for this when we don't win a championship during the 97's reign.
I seriously think this is our last year to compete and I made that very clear last season.
Maybe we do add and this is an overreaction, but as of this post we haven't added so its fair game. It's unacceptable.

If Kane wants to screw the team out of 5M in deadline cap space just so he can come back and play 3 meaningless games a week earlier that would be a tough look, but there is no evidence this is where his headspace is at other than wild fan speculation.

That likely does happen if it's that late in the season. He could be cleared in two weeks though. Nobody knows. That's why they can't confidently spend his money.
No way he's ready in 2 weeks. JJ guessed midway through the playoffs, but maybe he is faster at recovery than most and it could be the start of the playoffs. It will be late in the season like you said. That is why this makes no sense.

What I've picked up from some of the capologists and insiders:
-You can't force a player to stay on LTIR. There is a grievance process when teams and players disagree (we've seen this with Lupul and others in the past)
-The NHL won't approve a trade that circumvents the cap. When a trade will put a team into LTIR past the deadline, they will usually ask for an opinion from the team's doctors that the player will not be fit to play during the regular season, and confirmation from the player that they don't dispute the opinion.
-E. Kane really wants to play regular season games, and has seen some of his own doctors.
My best guess is that the team's doctors think Kane shouldn't play, but Kane wants to come back early and found a doctor to dispute the teams position.
The fact that it’s murky should make the whole process easier to game.
Half the cup winners in the league have players that get it and are willing to remain “injured” until game 1 of the playoffs when they are all of a sudden magically healthy.
If this isn’t what happens with Kane then either the Oilers are too incompetent to figure this out or Kane would rather put himself ahead of the team.
I’ll take your stance and wait until tomorrow to find out what the plan with Kane is before jumping to conclusions though.
