The English Lower League thread (Part 2)

Y'all think that's wild, check out the National League South (tier 6 or step whatever it's called)...bear in mind one automatic promotion spot and one playoff spot after a six-team playoff just like the National League above it

And Truro wound up winning the automatic spot based on scoring two more goals than Torquay, the top six all finish within three points of each other

Massive last minute win by Luton over Coventry who could now drop out of a playoff spot. Hull-Derby will be a big one too, I think if Derby lose they are doomed

If not for the win, Luton would have been hard done by their player being sent off for a gentle push on opponent's arm, who faked what happened by holding his face as if he had been punched in the head. Can't blame the ref too much without VAR, though.

Not in the top five divisions, no

There’s been some in the lower levels but doing it from the 10th to 7th tier hardly has the same cache as NL to the Championship in three years and with a massive target on their back to boot

Watford had an impressive promotion run in the the late 1970's/early 1980's finishing in the 2nd spot at the top flight (with leading players like John Barnes and Luther Blissett), but even they didn't make it in straight promotions (stayed in the 2nd division=modern day Championship for a couple of seasons).

Went to a Truro game before covid at their old ground. This was the first season in their new one. Promotion was completely unexpected. Great achievement.

Coventry v Boro will be some game on the final day of the Championship season.

Blackburn and Millwall will be hoping that their respective opponents have other things on their minds.

The last relegation spot is going to be crazy in the Championship. Cardiff and Plymouth are down and the last spot will either be:

Hull 48 pts. -10 goal difference
Luton 49 -22
Preston 49 -11
Derby 49 -8
Stoke 50 -15

Derby plays Stoke and all others have road matches: Hull at Portsmouth, Luton at West Brom and Preston and Bristol.

Luton dropped again. Gotta think Sheffield has the inside track over Sunderland, Coventry, and Bristol in the playoffs. It's been awhile for those three being in the top flight so I'm pulling for them over another yoyo club.

Feeling sad for Luton.

Frank Lampard did a very good job at Coventry. They were 17th, 2 pts above the relegation spots when he took over. And now they're in the playoffs.

Would like to see a big club like Sunderland in the PL, they should potentially be able to invest enough to stay up like Nottingham did couple of seasons ago.

All Bradford City had to do to get the last automatic promotion was win 1 of their last 5.....but they went LDDL and were tied 0-0 as 4th place Walsall was up 1-0, so they were about to be pipped at the post for the last spot and have to go to the 4 team playoffs.

But in the 96th minute of the last match of the season they scored to win promotion back to League One for the 1st time since 18-19. They will join Doncaster, who was last in League One in 21-22 and Port Vale who were relegated from League One just last year.

Pretty good day for football across Yorkshire

Leeds Utd Championship Champions
Donny Rovers League Two Champions
Bradford City League Two promotion
Hull City escape Championship relegation
