The English Lower League thread (Part 2)

Wycombe one point behind Wrexham who drew against Wigan

Sheffield United with a shock loss to Plymouth, hard to see now them finishing top 2 (5 points back with 4 to play)

Knotts won their mid-week match, so they were in 4th when the day began. In the early game, Walsall were up 2-1 over Port Vale but lost the match and the lead in the league. Walsall has gone d/l/d/l/d/d/d/d/l in their last 9 and have blown their massive lead.

Port Vale were briefly top of the table after that match, but Bradford City took advantage of the opening by shutting out Crewe 2-0 and now lead League Two

1-Bradford City-73
2-Port Vale-73
3-Walsall-72

4-Doncaster-70 (1 in hand, would move to 2nd with a win)
5-Wimbeldon-68
6-Knotts-68
7-Grimsby-65

8-Colchester-62
9-Crewe-61
10-Chesterfield-58 (1 in hand)
11-Salford-58 (1 in hand)

Lots of tops playing bottoms this weekend. 4th place Doncaster and 5th place Wimbledon face off, but no other top 10 teams face off.

Bradford City may kick themselves, this game was AMAZING, 9 goals. 2 own goals, 3 from throw-ins. Red card. Total beautiful mess.

Walsall was in 1st all season, now they've dropped to 3rd. Bradford was in 1st yesterday, now they are in 2nd. Port Vale has won 4 in a row to race to the top of the table with just 4 match days left

1-Port Vale-76
2-Bradford City-73
3-Walsall-72

4-Doncaster-71 (1 game in hand)
5-Wimbledon-69
6-Notts County-6
7-Grimsby-66

8-Colchester-65
9-Chesterfield-62
10-Salford-61 (1 game in hand)

Sakford hosts Doncaster Tuesday and then all clubs will have 4 matches left.

Plymouth screwed in stoppage time by one of the worst penalty calls I've ever seen, which was also given as a red for DOGSO. Boro forward with truly an appalling dive (not the first they've done today). Total f***ing hatchet job in a game which was a must-win for both teams.

Doesn’t seem like there will be much drama for the playoff spots this season. Coventry essentially eliminated West Brom from contention today. Three teams fighting for two spots

Wrexham down to third today after dropping points at home. Still three rounds to go

Loss basically relegates Plymouth. 3 games to make up 4 points is pretty inconceivable at this stage.

Genuinely appalled by the reffing at the end. Boro had been flopping all day trying to get penalties (they were struggling to create), but the ref wasn't biting until suddenly he bit on the most absurd one and gave a red to boot.

As an aside, if I could change one single rule in this sport, I would make the keeper falling on the ball an automatic yellow.

Crazy day in the Championship, everybody bar Cardiff in the relegation fight won. Several of the playoff candidates lost, most damaging was West Brom losing at home to Derby

Leeds will secure promotion if Sheffield United don’t win later today

Kind of wild how much there is at play right now:

Wrexham held to a 1-1 draw at home while Wycombe got a 2-0 away win. Wycombe ahead by one point at 2nd. Next round on Monday.
Next round decidedly to Wrexham, as Charlton crushes Wycombe away 4-0 while Wrexham wins 2-1 at Blackpool. Wycombe away to Leyton Orient (who needs a result to help their own playoff push) in the early Saturday game, anything less than a win for Wycombe and Wrexham can clinch promotion with a win on Saturday…but Wrexham now gets their crack at Charlton, who needs another win to keep their top two surge alive

And the playoff candidates were losing to the relegation scrappers. Luton over Bristol, Derby over WBA, and Plymouth over Coventry. It was a must-win for Plymouth regardless, but it was annoying to see Luton and Derby both pick up wins.

Two matches left. Plymouth safety essentially requires two wins from two, and for Luton and Derby to each pick up less than two points.

Nobody wants to win League Two. Only 1 team has a win amongst the top 8 in the last 2 match days, and that's new to the top of the table, Doncaster wh won twice. So the top 8 went a combined 2-5-9 the last 2 match days which leaves us with this mess

1-Donacaster-78 points 3-0-2 in their last 5
2-Port Vale-77 3-1-1
3-Bradford City 75 1-2-2

4-Walsall 74 0-2-3
5-Wimbledon 70 1-2-2
6-Notts 69 1-3-1
7-Grimsby 67 1-2-2

8-Colcester 66 2-2-1
9-Salford 65 2-2-1
10-Chesterfield 64 1-1-3

1st place Doncaster faces 3rd place Bradford in the match of the year thus far. 5th place Wimbledon faces 2nd place Port Vale and 8th place Colcester goes to 9th place Salford.

It's possible we go to the last match day with: Bradford 78/Doncaster78/Port Vale 78/Walsall 77 for 3 automatic spots and 6 teams fighting for the last playoff spots.

Y'all think that's wild, check out the National League South (tier 6 or step whatever it's called)...bear in mind one automatic promotion spot and one playoff spot after a six-team playoff just like the National League above it

And none of the 6 play each other :)

Massive last minute win by Luton over Coventry who could now drop out of a playoff spot. Hull-Derby will be a big one too, I think if Derby lose they are doomed

Am I remembering this correctly that no team has managed three consecutive promotions in English football?
Not in the top five divisions, no

There’s been some in the lower levels but doing it from the 10th to 7th tier hardly has the same cache as NL to the Championship in three years and with a massive target on their back to boot
