Keep both.
If both end up with great numbers at the end of the season you have a great trading piece thats worth more than they are right now.
^pretty likely scenario as well

If Jarry continues to play the way he is playing right now I would consider letting MM leave in the summer. Anything over 6M would be an over payment for him. He is not a top 10 goalie in this league.

Murr can't just leave. Still RFA.
It's pretty likely imo that both play pretty well or well enough that in the summer you have a great trading piece thats worth more then than they are now.
Or rather you can get more value then vs now.

Unless we are getting someone like Kapanen (which we wont) as Peat? was saying we should just keep Jarry.

Yup. I guess if I wanted to be nice I might take Sandin or Liljegren instead. A bit closer to fair.

But screw fair trade offers. We have no need to move someone and, while the situation may change, no pressing need to acquire someone.

Not over doing it whatsoever. He is a middle pair defenseman right now. His age is irrelevant.

He will be paid like a middle pair defenseman next season.
If we can get him in at under 4m a year, that would be ideal. Marino is far better than him already and I'm not sure Petts lasts as a 2nd pair guy with the kids we have in wbs. But if he's our 3rd pair LD and we move Johnson, quality. All quality.

I'm not ready to pin my hopes on Jarry and let MM get traded. MM won us 2 cups, Jarry has been good but he's not proven he can help us win cups.

Keep both.

Jarry and Murray are both RFAs...I don’t see JR paying both of them big money...ideally, I don’t think he should feel he has to force himself to make a choice...let the season play out...see what you have, field trade offers even for Murray, and if both are close as goalies, trade the one who nets the best offer back...this isn’t rocket science...no need to trade a good goalie in Jarry without being forced to...and worst case, he can take both to arbitration and get one more year to have to make his decision...I just hope he’s not throwing a truck full of money at Murray because rn he’s not showing himself to be better than Jarry

Good thing Jarry will be lucky to get the Desmith deal.

Pens have to package Jarry with a contract and get back a either a RH center or RH forward who can play RW with Sid. I still move Kuhny for a good pick high third or second. Bjugstad opens up cap room but Pens need a RH center in a deal.

Jake Sid Trade
McCann Geno Rust
Tanev Bjugs/trade Horny
Reese TB Lafferty
Simon

No goalie will bring back a top six RW let alone an NHL C. Bjugs, Kahun, anyone packaged wont either. You'll be dumping a goalie for no reason.

I'd be very careful about trading Jarry. And though CDS might not be as attractive as it pertains to contract, potential and age, he still did a very credible job when he was up with the big club. He probably isn't gonna garner a lot of value, but if you're a team like the Leafs, he's a sizable and definite upgrade to what you have in house.

Jarry is a young, talented, cost controlled goalie who has played exceedingly well in his starts this season. It's a small sample size, but again unless it's a real good deal for the Pens I'd be inclined to keep him. I wouldn't really want to move CDS but I'd me more amenable to doing that certainly. MM is scaring me a bit so I'd like to see how Jarry does over the next couple of months. He has all the tools, he just needs to be consistent. And that'll be hard to gauge in such a limited role. If he continues to put up the numbers he is I'd expect him to start with more regularity moving forward.

I still think we should move Schultz and find a stud LD for Marino and roll with Dumo-Letang, LD-Marino, Petts-Riikola moving forward. I still want JJ moved, because I'm not convinced a dozen game stretch means he's a solid blueliner now. We saw Gudbranson regress after a 20-something game stretch where he looked even better than JJ does. JJ's been bad for far, far longer than Gudbranson was with Vancouver, so I think it's safe to assume that he'll eventually regress too. Move him while his play is solid and his value is probably as high as it'll ever be.

Find a stud 2nd pairing LD and find a winger for Geno-Rust and I think we're in a really good spot. Those are two big moves though.

Jake-Sid-Kahun
LW-Geno-Rust
McCann-Blueger-Hornqvist
Lafferty-Blandisi-Tanev

Dumo-Letang
LD-Marino
Petts-Riikola

Could obviously use an upgrade at 3C to push Blueger back down, but I think if you find a good fit for those LW and LD openings, you've got as good a lineup as we're gonna have for the rest of the Sid/Geno/Letang era. No idea how to fit Simon in the lineup either. I don't think he's a better option than any of the wingers listed. I'd say Lafferty but that dude should never sit again.
