I would do a Galchenyuk for Pageau 1 for 1. Put Pageau at 3C. Use Bjugstad to either bring in a winger for the top 6 or upgrade the defense.
It's because a KHL team is trying to poach him, and I'd imagine the "don't show up" is due to Kovalchuk taking the offer, or initiating the discussion while under contract with the Kings.Anyone willing to give Kovalchuk a shot? He’s apparently been told to not show up to work anymore, but he can practice with team. King’s fans alluding to an issue with coaching and that Kovalchuks play is not the issue.

This team still needs another left wing.
It would be nice if once, just once, we went into the playoffs with four top 6 wingers for our big two Cs.
Shit, we take that Galchenyuk for Pageau deal and run like Hell. That would be a fleecing.I would do a Galchenyuk for Pageau 1 for 1. Put Pageau at 3C. Use Bjugstad to either bring in a winger for the top 6 or upgrade the defense.

Don't think either Bjugstad or Galchenyuk have any real value though.
Cap space is awesome. JR using cap space is not awesome. The cap space allocated to them does.

We'd have to add a significant asset, imo.It wouldn't be a 1 for 1, but that could be a base. Galchenyuk may re-sign in Ottawa.

I thought Pageau was a UFA too? I don't even know. Maybe Ottawa would pay us back for the Brassard trade.I'm not sure. He is a free agent after this season, so maybe if he didn't want to re-sign with Ottawa? I just think he'd be an interesting target.

He'd definitely be an interesting target, but I think @Big Friggin Dummy is right that you'd have to add a significant asset to Gally to get him.
EDIT: Pageau has 8g, 4a, +15 in 17 games. Definitely a significant asset would need to be added.
I imagine Pageau gets a similar return to Stone if he keeps up this season. 1st or 2nd + a solid prospect.
Kahun may yet turn out to be a legit top six left wing. I think the bigger question at the moment is whether we still have a legit #2 center. This team still needs another left wing.

Ten years ago? Sure. Now? No. Definitely not worth that cap hit.Anyone willing to give Kovalchuk a shot? He’s apparently been told to not show up to work anymore, but he can practice with team. King’s fans alluding to an issue with coaching and that Kovalchuks play is not the issue.

On the other hand, Hall's already made a tonne of money playing the game. Does he care about winning or getting paid an extra $2 million per year? He's talked about how he wants to win because he's always been on teams missing the playoffs, so if that's true at all he might be willing to take a slight discount to sign with a club he feels gives him a good chance to win the Cup.
He’ll get a 7 year deal. 2 mil discount equates to 14 mill in money he would miss out on. Not happening.
It’s his last contract he can cash in on. These guys say all the right things - but it’s always about the money in the end - and rightfully so.
Serious question: who was the last player to sign at a discount for a chance at the cup?
Karia. Or was it Selanne? One of them signed for less than 2m in Colorado to chase a cup ~15/20 years ago. That's the last deal that really comes to mind where a player took far less in order to really try to win. And it was a 1 yr deal. There might have been a few other cases since then, but overall they're few and far between.
Not sure if it was a real discount in salary, but Hossa signed that deal with the wings when the pens made him a significant long term offer. Or at least it was at least rumored we did.Karia. How would people feel about a JJ-Kovalchuk swap?
Who is the fastest?Did a quick filter on players around Chucky's age and "not cheap" who aren't scoring that much:
Mikael Granlund
Sam Bennett
Nino Niederreiter
Charlie Coyle
Granlund seems, to me, to be the most realistic option of the four.
