Player Discussion: The Elvis Thread

With Elvis being the one apologizing and taking the team to dinner to makes me think, once againn he was the one doing the finger pointing, and an interview like this just rings hollow.
Or maybe he just felt bad and wanted to make amends.

I’m not sure Bob took everyone to dinner when he got pulled and went straight to the shower leaving no backup on the bench against Tampa before he left town.

If he just felt bad, there would be no need to apologize. Everyone has bad games.

Bob's beef was with management and not his team mates, I am sure they knew that. Plus Bob gave way more to this franchise than Elvis ever will. No comparison of situations really.

Who said there was "finger pointing"? What does "finger pointing" have to do with the content of the posted interview?

But let's go ahead and tackle the matter of the "apology dinner". Why does the "apology" have to be for "finger pointing"? Why would there have to have been anything about "finger pointing" at all? Why couldn't the "apology" have been for not reacting to his own substandard play well, for having an emotional reaction that basically resulted in his being pulled from the game? "Hey guys. I'm sorry I played bad. I'm sorry I reacted the way I did."

“It got away from us,” Blue Jackets coach Dean Evason said. “We did some individual things (in the third period) that we don’t normally do. Are we disappointed in that? Yeah. Did we address it already? Yeah.”

Evason didn’t provide specifics, but he acknowledged there was some internal conflict in the form of finger-pointing among the Blue Jackets either during the game or after Saturday’s game.

One can understand why tempers would be running hot. Coupled with Thursday’s 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, the Jackets have allowed 10 unanswered goals.

“That (finger-pointing) is exactly what we addressed (after the game),” Evason said. “We’ve stuck together all year. Why would we change at this point? Forget about pressure and whatever, all of that. You don’t change because there’s a situation that’s a little bit negative, and we haven’t.

“We’ve done it a couple of times (this season), maybe, and tonight we certainly did. So we addressed it real early.”

Merzlikins and veteran defenseman Erik Gudbranson could be seen barking at each other during play early in the third period on Saturday. It started between the time Toronto’s William Nylander scored to make it 3-0 (at 1:11 of the period) and when he scored again to make it 4-0 (at 4:21), and it spilled over to the bench area during a TV timeout a few minutes later. That’s what Evason was likely referring to when he said the Blue Jackets started “finger-pointing” during the loss. Gudbranson was asked after the game by reporters in Toronto about the challenge of staying united, even as the season slips away. “We’re the same team from when it was going well and the same team now,” Gudbranson said. “It’s a great group of guys and a lot of character in this room. We’re working toward a goal and sometimes you have disagreements, but we all love each other in here.”

I am just basing it on Elvis' actions in the past. I mean, he did throw his new goalie coach under the bus when asked about the impact he had on his improvement at the time. He has an ego, and in my eyes, I don't think he is a good team mate. To me, the interview rings hollow. If I had a choice, I would say Elvis was doing the finger pointing over Gudbranson doing it.

Finger pointing can go both ways. Worth pointing out that Gudbranson has missed much of the year and hasn’t exactly helped the defense since he returned. Maybe he’s trying too hard and going some finger pointing himself to deflect from his own poor play.

I can’t assume only 1 person is at fault in a given situation but also, this stuff also appears to have not happpened while he was out of the lineup too.

Assumptions can go many different directions. The reality is both players will have their own views and the real truth that fans will never know is somewhere in the middle.

I’m done with Elvis.l he will be bought out this summer, but let’s be real .. Gudbranson looked like a pile cone yesterday , didn’t notice as much Saturday … Pretty easy to understand why Jarmo was let go .. Elvis , Severson , and Gudbranson are all horrible contracts . I do think Severson will be tradeable with some retention , being that he’s offensively skilled and a right shot ..

Who knows if this is just rehash from earlier this season or something new(or straight BS)

I’ve never heard of that guy, a Google search doesn’t indicate any publication he’s associated with, and he has 235 followers (despite following more than 2,000).

My guess is it’s the equivalent of you or me tweeting that out, and he’s hoping people run with it for clout/engagement and/or so he can claim he was right later. It’s not like he’s going out on a huge limb. But highly doubt that guy actually knows anything more than anyone on this board. And I mean that quite literally.

21-22 team was young, rookie headcoach, certainly bunch of issues with their play but they performed well relative to expectations and seemed like a great team who play for each other and never any give up in their game.

Gudbranson comes in for 22-23. Team sucks
23-24 team sucks even worse

24-25 Gudbranson misses most of season. team overperforms to epic proportions, new coach brings better defensive structure and everything seems awesome in the Jackets land. Even Elvis plays decent and there's plenty of word how he's improved his his team game. Gudbranson comes back, team implodes and now we hear of "fingerpointing".

Not pointing fingers, just playing devil's advocate for the fun of it.

We have better ways to know Gudbranson is an issue. Great guy, possibly our worst player.
