What I don’t understand is how anything negative that’s in the “press” is apparently supposed to be dismissed, yet, every little positive tidbit or PR quote that paints him in a positive light is fully trusted.

He clearly has a frail ego that needs constant support. The team and organization understands this, and is PROBABLY an aspect that certain players and coaches had and HAVE a problem with
my read on elvis, as a local who knows people who (edit: talk like they) know people, is that he's been a problem for a while. seems like he may be finally putting the work in (both on the ice and in the room) but it's a bit too late to really change anyone's mind. evason's quote tracks with that.

at this point it just is what it is. we'll drive ourselves crazy if we keep looking for little tells here and there that things are still rocky, but even in a good effort the other night there were a couple that stood out to me.
  • no one going after arvidsson early in the game after he ran into elvis
  • the "fatigue" thing – i don't think that was editorializing from portzline, i think he got that from a team source and the org had to circle the wagons to keep it from blowing up
  • elvis mentioning in the bench interview postgame that he had "two weeks off" (he then awkwardly corrected himself)
regardless, it's in everyone's best interest that he plays well and at least gives off the perception that he's not toxic in the room. it raises the floor for this team and best case may even create a market for him, whether that's in a trade or as a post-buyout UFA next summer.

We drive ourselves crazy reading into “little tells” and then we proceed to read into things by making assumptions not based in fact but what we think happened.

When knowing people who know people share stories, the “facts” change with each time the story is told. We’ve all played that game before.

I once heard from a friend who thought I was on life support from a car accident when I only sprained my wrist. That story went through only 3 people before word got back to me that I was on the verge of death.

hard to live in columbus and not hear from other fans (who very well could be full of it) that elvis isn't a popular guy in the room, and hasn't been since he strong-armed jarmo into burning his whole ELC. (edited to clarify that this isn't meant to be read as insider information)

the same notions have been consistently hinted at in the media (and more or less confirmed outright by AP's article this summer). does that mean it's definitely true? no. is there enough smoke there to think that it's true? for me, absolutely.

does it bother me if anyone here doesn't think it's true? no. at the end of the day i'm just a stranger on the internet. no one here should take anyone else here seriously.

as for the "not based in fact" part… at the end of the day this is an internet message board. we're not gonna win any putlizers here, guys.

This is the part where I gently point out that this board does have rules about insider information claims and regarding rumors and hearsay (short version: don't).

I did not like that either. Glad to hear that Dean had an open conversation about it with him.
I like that it’s an open conversation. He’s not being told he’s wrong. He’s being guided into why it would be better to do it differently.

The message is more constructive in that delivery.

I get mad at myself for a lot of things that I do too and have reacted in a similar way so I can relate. It’s a heat of the moment reaction from someone who desperately wants to be perfect. It’s all about learning to remain calm and refocusing in the moments where we aren’t perfect even if we technically didn’t make a mistake to allow it to happen.

I can see having this discussion when you're an early 20's rookie, but when you are a 30 year old vet, it shoud have already been addressed.

1) It may not be on the 30-year-old's end.
2) If Dean is seeing it for the first time, it may be a conversation he hasn't personally had with Elvis previous, and I'd rather he have the dialogue than not.

Funny a stick slam is becoming a talking point. Carey Price is looked at as a calm and composed goalie and how many sticks did he snap in his career? Or is it competitive spirit when someone else does it?

Like Boston did with Rask or whatever long list of goalies with high emotions?
It could be that some of those goalies busted up their sticks because the goal they gave up cost their team the game. This was a 6-0 blowout and he gave up a goal that cost nothing but his shutout. It comes across as selfish. If this was a game winning goal he gave up, there is no discussion.

If only posters would stop talking about it.
just to make sure i'm getting this right, goalie with a hothead reputation slams his stick when his team is about to win 6-1:
  • head coach gets asked about it, gives quote about it = GOOD
  • message board posters talk about the quote the coach gave = BAD
we don't need on-the-record reporting to confirm that elvis doesn't always conduct himself professionally (see: 'haters' quotes, tom wilson incident, pulling himself from games). we've been hearing about a new, more mature elvis. this seems like dean trying to make sure he doesn't turn back into old elvis.

goalies are weird and there are plenty of hotheaded players across the league. it's not a distraction if you're consistently good enough. elvis hasn't been that.

That was sarcastic. I went back in to stealth edit but you must have been too efficient.

Finally, somebody's starting to get it!
