What did him in was that knee injury after his Hart year (which I will still defend to the bitter end). He needed that kind of movement in order to be at his best. Without that movement, he's a shell of himself.
I agree that he was a bitch on the way out of NJ, but look at that trade tree. We got Bahl (reclaimed enough as a player to trade for Markstrom), a second round pick (traded to the Caps for Siegenthaler in the runup to the Kraken expansion draft), and a first round pick that had its condition fulfilled (used to select Dawson Mercer). That more than makes up for the end of his time. And, frankly, he was honest about what he wanted from us in 2019-20: he wanted to be competitive, but they weren't. Blunt, yes, but understandable, even if he was a whiner by the end. I don't want him back because he's cooked, but if he does, I'll forgive him.
He had potential to be a very good player. The issue he had over the years was his attitude and the fact he's not entirely the smartest person, but not just that was spoiled rotten as a kid. But he also didn't listen to coaches and came into Edmonton with a lot of pressure being their first ever first overall pick. In the Taylor vs Tyler what needed to be noted was sure Hall had a way better career in the OHL, but what made Seguin so unique in my eyes was from what I understood he went pointless in his first ten games but managed to get more points at the end of the season than games, and in his draft year he only had AJ Jenks to work with. But as for Hall he had a staggering amount of assistance that didn't end most of which were drafted to the NHL. But let alone these, Hall dealt with more injuries.
Apparently, he was such a problem that Edmonton did that New Jersey trade because they just needed to get rid of him. But either way I believe they should've gotten way more for him.
You mean to tell me that the guy who complained about wanting to play for a winner, went to free agency, and signed a one year "show me" contract in Buffalo isn't smart?
