The other candidates that year were MacKinnon and Kopitar. All three players made it to the playoffs. All three eliminated after one round. Hall narrowly beats them both for % of total team goals for. By what metric did MacKinnon or Kopitar distinguish themselves that season that should have meant the award go to them?

I have no dog in this hunt. You just seem really salty.
Im not salty. I never liked Hall. Wasn’t as advertised and i actually was happy with the Hall for Larsen trade. Maybe I’m biased against him, but I’m not salty about him.

I understand being grumpy if your favorite player didn't get the award you thought he deserved but come on.. This happened years ago.

let it go.

Literally just injuries. People trying to write him off when he was really good cause he sucks now is hilariously short sighted. Hart Trophy debate more washed than he currently is.

It's crazy to me that despite Seguin having a major injury history as well ( which lead to him having to completely change his game because he can't skate for shit now ) he still has almost 150 games more played than Hall.

When he was in Windsor, and his first few years in Edmonton, there were definitely plenty of stories circulating online about people running into him at bars/clubs and him being kinda douchey. Nothing particularly bad, just him being a young, arrogant athlete, and it was all just random anonymous comments that may or may not have been true.

Also haven’t heard much of that since he hit his mid 20s, it was mostly something you heard quite early in his career. If it was true, he’s probably matured since.
Just a bit more context on this - one of the Edmonton talking heads talked about this a few years ago. Apparently Hall had some social anxiety issues, and he had trouble adjusting to being approached by strangers all the time. His reaction didn't manifest in the healthiest way, but it's how he avoided uncomfortable interactions.

Not sure if that has changed over time or with less of a spotlight with subsequent teams.

Healthy scratched by Chicago last night.

2g/6 pts in 17gp... Had 36 pts in 61 gp two years ago with Boston. That 94 pt MVP season with NJ looks like a flash in the pan for what's turned out to be a very mid career by a 1st overall pick.

What happened to him? Too many injuries, not a high enough compete level?

Oilers ruined a lot of 1st overalls during that period...too much pressure and poor management. They almost ruined Draisatl also...

Hall had major injury issues literally from the start of his career. Seguin had injuries later in his career which is not uncommon. Hall has been fighting it since he was 18.

Never a compete level issue with Hall he was a full out competitor. I'd imagine it has a lot to do with his injuries. Pretty sure he's had at least 5 or 6 surgeries, many of them to his knees. I'd imagine his knees are pretty much shredded at this point which probably kills his skating.

Yeah him putting up 80 in 75 in 13-14 is certainly the Oilers ruining him. 42 in 60 as a rookie, really rushed him hey? Meanwhile the Flyers are scratching Michkov in consecutive games...

Hall was never a cerebral player, his athleticism carried him. Have to imagine the injuries aren't helping.

I remember following the Taylor vs. Tyler pre-draft debate closely and hockey 'experts' speculated that Hall would have a better start to his career but would burn out quicker whereas Seguin would be the better player in the long run... crazy to see that's exactly how it played out.

I loved Hall as an Oiler but looking back, taking the right handed centre would have made more sense... At least they eventually got a right handed D for him
