The apartment manager called me late this morning and asked if my ceiling was still leaking. I said it was so they came out to look at it again.

Just got another call. "We found the leak! It was from the water line to the ice maker in the fridge in the apartment above yours."

Well isn't that funny. When they remodeled these apartments, they took out the old refrigerators that had ice makers and replaced them with fridges that didn't have one. Or at least that's what I was told, and mine certainly doesn't have one. :skeptic:

But wait it gets better!

"Oh and we had to drill holes in your ceiling to find the leak. The drywall guys will be out here Friday to fix it."

It's....*checks calendar*....Tuesday.

I cannot wait to see what my apartment looks like when I get home.

I'm assuming they cut out that section of drywall that had the water damage shown in the photo you shared yesterday.

I envy anyone who can sleep on an airplane. It's weird I've been fascinated by aviation & spaceflight since I was a small girl but I can never relax on an airplane.

The entire flying experience has turned into a nightmare for everyone. I've yet to discover a good reason for it. It's like the airlines have no respect for their customers.
It also doesn't help that too many people simply won't behave respectfully towards their fellow passengers either

Please do not apply logic to anything my apartment maintenance handles lol

The last time I had a leak when i was on second floor, the guy said don't worry, they're putting a new roof on all the buildings. I said I know, they installed it on this building a month ago so this is your new roof leaking.

I can't sleep on any type of public transportation. I struggle to even sleep in a car with a friend or family member driving.

Is it humanely possible to sleep on the plane?

And, for those of a certain age, remember when you used to dress up to fly?

Yes, Virginia, we did that.

Now, I avoid the nightmare that is contemporary flying at all cost, for several reasons.

And if I absolutely have to fly, I'm going to dress for comfort in coach.

(I've actually never flown first class. My sister Mary Kay has never flown coach. I'm a cheap bastard. She has her standards.)

Weed!
I stopped wearing jeans after a TSA agent in Tampa decided that there was something in my jeans. I told her it was my fat and nothing more. She wasn't amused and to put it politely, frisked me. I complained and she got chewed out by her superior who saw the whole thing. After that, I now wear nice yoga pants, a nice tshirt with a sweater, ball hat and sneakers. Comfy casual.

I can fall asleep if I have a window seat. If I'm lucky I'll sleep through takeoff. Sometimes I'll wait until after I have a mimosa on the plane. I fly Delta comfort plus so my alcoholic beverages are free.

I realize that sounds slightly elitist but I fly 2x a year so I might as well be comfortable. I tend to upgrade if I have the miles or if the upgrade charge is under $120. Doing this gets me 2 free bags which comes in handy when you need to pack for almost 2 months away.

I fly first class on my trip out to see the fam for the holidays. :)

IF you were a boy they would have given you those airline pilot wings (sic).

May I ask, where did you emigrate from, and where did you settle in Canada?
We emigrated from Newcastle, England, to Thompson, Manitoba. My mother cried for weeks. We kids LOVED the snow and ice. Quite the shock for my parents. We only lasted a year there and then moved to Mississauga, Ontario.

Thanks for reminding me that i need to inquire about the status of the drywall repair in my bathroom. I'm betting that there is mold behind the soft wall and they will need to tear some things apart. Not my fault no one replaced the baseboards after the 75 gallon hot water tank went upstairs.

I haven't flown since 2015.

I get a kick out of watching Trek Trendy on YouTube. He takes all kinds of first class flights, trains, cruises, whatever. Can't imagine the miles he's racked up.

I alluded to this somewhat cryptically recently, but my partner and I have been undergoing IVF treatment. It's a whirlwind both physically (her) and emotionally (both of us, to be honest). Everything was going very well, and we were about to be set for transfer of an embryo very shortly, but got news this morning that her uterine lining is not thick enough, so the cycle has been cancelled.

In terms of bad news, it's the 'good' kind, in that a thin lining can be treated very effectively with estrogen. In other words, it's fixable - certain things are not, as we all know. Egg count, quality - a host of other things.

Anyway - just sharing here because you semi-anonymous folks are a go-to source of comfort for me.

Love each other, and take stock of good fortune in life.
Wishing you the best. A friend of mine and his wife went through it, and they had a similarly draining experience. Bolded is the best advice you can give.

I cant sleep on a plane, train or car. Sucked when I had to travel to Europe on business frequently.

Now I only fly maybe once or twice a year. If I can get first class I do it. One because as seats have gotten smaller I have gotten larger. Second because Ive yet to see a Brinks truck follow a hearse.

Going to Orlando in. Few weeks. Out of Worcester for the first time. Only have JB more room. It’ll have to do.
I travel in comfortable clothes. Usually jeans , untuck shirt and my slip on sneakers. And only sit in an aisle seat. I get up to pee every hour like clockwork.

I did enough years in a jacket and tie.
Hell, I remember when you could smoke on a plane. That was something.

I watch some travelers on youtube just so I don't feel bad about how neurotic I get the week before I fly.

I'm doing my major de-clutter and organizing this weekend so everything will be organized and I won't have to do much the closer my trip gets. Having an SI joint procedure at the end of September is going to sideline me activity wise for about 3 weeks so the more I do now, the less stressed I am then.

I can sleep just about anytime, anywhere on a plane. It started in the Navy, when the drone of 68 hertz from the props became like an unrelenting lullaby. Then, when consulting, I was flying so much, the comfort of being in a plane returned, and I was able to dive right back into sleepyland.

As for respect, it's on all fronts. Airlines don't respect their passengers, passengers don't respect the flight crew, and certainly don't respect each other. All generalizations, clearly - there are plenty who do, but they are overshadowed by the entitled, disrespectful ones.

They always want to pat down my left calf for some reason. I don't know why, but every time I go through the sensor thing they want to feel up that leg.

Sleeping on a plane is nearly impossible. I can doze off a little here or there but at the cost of my back hurting like hell the next couple days being in an unnatural position. Recently had a round trip with 7-hour redeyes both ways and I slept maybe 3 hours on both, and not consecutively. Just uncomfortable.

I had one of those neck pillow things but found that the negatives from having to carry it around the airport and it being very hot outweighed any benefit from using it. Maybe if I had a more expensive lightweight one it'd be better.

For a redeye when you want to sleep, window seat is better. But on most flights I'm an aisle guy just because I'm above average height and my legs need to stretch. On the first leg of my recent trip I managed to snag a seat in the emergency exit row (i.e. nobody in front of you), which was pretty sweet TBQH.

Hang in there and dont lose hope. I speak from the highs and lows of experience.
We were married in ‘81. After a few years couldnt get pregnant. Tests and more tests. Even surgeries.
We were even told it would never be. But we didnt stop . Tried at different places. Finally, in 1993 science and medicine caught up to us. My son came along. The perfect cocktail of daily shots I had to give the Bride paid off.

Our first cost us over $100K out of pocket. Thankfully Massachusetts made it law for insurance to cover it after that for our second pregnancy.
Then in ‘98 along came the twins.
We truly experienced the monthly hold your breath and hope and then breakdown. It can devastate a relationship or can make it so much stronger. Hang n there.

So odd that they go for your left calf. I go right through with no issues even when I get chosen for extra screening. I'm 5'1 so I can curl up a little bit on the plane but most times I will just use the tray and cross my arms and use them as a pillow. The only time I have slept more than 3 hours on a plane was when I flew from Tokyo to Atlanta. Slept about 7 hours and woke up just as we were approaching the west coast.

Sounds like suitable attire to me.

Although Sparky (you know, the guy who lights fires and runs away, which, in this instance, is me) might counter

PS If you only fly twice a year, for heaven's sake, avail yourself of first class. Nothing slightly elitist about that.

A mimosa? That sounds slightly elitist.

In coach, a can of Bud is $7.00, the plastic cup it comes in, $1.75.

And by the way, what's the deal with airplane peanuts?

Maybe the muscle or tendons there are tighter than the other leg and show up differently under my jeans, I don't know.
