OT - NO POLITICS The Dog Days Of Summer.........

I love visiting Florida, in recent years have been to Jupiter, Key West, Sarasota/Siesta Key, Fort Myers Beach, Tampa for this year's Frozen Four(a great time, even though my team lost). Thing is, during my early April trip to Tampa, it was in the vicinity of 90 degrees each day. Glancing at the recent summer highs down there, I'm not sure I could live in that year round.
I interviewed for a job in St. Petersberg in 2019 and while it was a cool experience, I was happy not to get the job due to what my commute might be, the humidity and the company itself. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Odds are that she's not homeless. The same shit is happening in and around OKC. The people pretend to be homeless and panhandle in intersections and then stand in the middle until people give them money. The same group will also use a beat up old truck and claim they broke down and people will give them free gas or money and those that don't they will suddenly move the car to block them in. There was a notice posted in the homeowners association Facebook group after someone's 17 year old daugher was boxed in and threatened with some vile shit.
I find that the more I have to interact with these people, the less empathy and more antipathy I feel toward them.

broke down and put a deposit on a 2023 totyota sienna. My wife’s car is a 2012 Mazda5 with 180k miles on it. Told myself I would go used but the prices are still nuts. At least if we get 180k miles out of the new car it will be another 12 year and then kid #2 will be off to college. Crazy to think about

Our local dealer had a 12 month wait for MSRP. Started emailing all dealers in New England. Snagged one at MSRP from a dealer in Maine that usually doesn’t sell out of state but they had an allocation no one wanted (LE, front wheel drive). Due in late September.

I am probably the only person in Northern New England that doesn’t want a AWD car. We have had FWD with studded tires for the past 5 years in VT with no issues. I had AWD once and it ripped though tires. Never again unless I have a driveway with a hill.

On another note. We saw Harry Potter live at Tanglewood this weekend. Perfect night, no clouds, crickets, live Boston pops doing the score. Great way to end summer!
AWD isn’t really all wheel drive. Mostly front wheel with the rears kicking in when they break loose. 4WD is different.

Same. I keep my windows up and my sunglasses on and just look straight ahead and they pass me. I hate to say it but one day they will pick the wrong person.

Some crazy homeless lady was freaking out on me for no reason on my way to work. I came to an intersection and stopped as she was cruising by on her bike at the same time, then she started knocking on my window and yelling about Obama and or something, then I stopped at a gas station up the road and she followed me and was screaming about how I must be a "libtard". I'm just like wtf...
We have gypsies that are seasonal here. They stay at the end of major shopping area exits and sing. It's pretty common to see them and they always have small kids with them.

there are a lot of shady practices in AZ. There was recently a woman making the rounds in West Valley who would just walk up to people and say....can you pay for my gas (or something like that). Most people cant find the words to object so they just do it. She used the same car every time so people got to know who she was.
She came up to @Glove Malfunction and he just said....not today.

In addition, scammers come right to your front door here and bang on it. They shout obscenities if you dont open it. Lots of seniors here, so they are successful a big percentage of the time.

What are they putting in the water out there? My sister lived AZ back in the 90s. She and her husband aren't holy rollers, but they are regular church goers. When they arrived, they tried to find a nice, low key Lutheran church like they had back home. All they found were borderline cults, so much so that my sister was scared to even go outside for fear of their "recruiters" who constantly pestered them finding her and her kids.

I can only venture a guess.
Lots of people starting over here and lots of people attracted to the "vortex energy". I can tell you where the vortexes are, they arent in sedona. Anyway....lots of vulnerable folks here. It's heavy LDS country as well.

Yesterday, the car. Today, the apartment. :banghead:

Came home tonight.... why is there a puddle on the kitchen floor? Looks up......oh.

Maintenance is checking it out. So far they are perplexed because it's not from the water heater in the apartment above mine, although that's what would make the most sense based on location.

:dunno:

Edit: maintenance guy thinks it's a condensation line. He's going to check it again in the morning. In the meantime, there is a bucket catching the occasional drips.

Pass the cookies.

At least you won't be financially responsible for the apartment repairs though right?

Yikes. Let's hope your boat doesn't start taking on water tomorrow.

Is it humanly possible to sleep well the night before getting up very early for a flight?
Not a chance. I actually book early flights for this reason. Helps with the anxiety at least in my case.

Safe travels and sleep on the plane.
