the disrespect is real and continuous.

Don’t know about a better lineup last season.
Monahan..meh
I wish we’d kept Dillon to play on the 3rd pairing…only one I’d have kept
Schmidt is no loss at all…addition by subtraction…should never have acquired him in the first place
Brossoit…meh
What? Monahan would've been a huge 2C upgrade on Names (Monahan scores at twice the rate and is also good in the faceoff circle). Losing him alone would be a significant roster downgrade...but the Jets also lost 2nd pair and 3rd pair defensemen, and a backup goalie who went 15-5-2 and put up a .927.

From an article in The Athletic: “1. Winnipeg Jets — I’ve had my doubts all year, but they’ve got the best goalie, lots of scoring, a fan base that’s absolutely starving for a Stanley Cup and a whole country ready to get behind them if they go deep. Screw it, we ride.”

Screw it, we ride. Yes.
Jets should go with this marketing genius!

Screw it, we ride!

Meh.
fans on a poll is meaningless. Pretty sure I voted the 97-101 on that poll....because I didn't want to be overly confident... and I figured a top 3 in the division would be about where the Jets finished...

what the poll does show is the MAJORITY of fans here believed the Jets were still a playoff team.
not bottom of the central struggling to make it and ripe for a rebuild. which is where almost every "expert" had us.
I'm talking about the fact that the Jets have been #1 since day 1 this year and still struggled to get national media attention or respect.
Talking head opinions are really meaningless, though. People who hang around HFJets definitely follow the team much more closely than any of those TSN/Sportsnet personalities, who maybe see 10 Jets games a year (and 5 of those were in the playoffs vs. Colorado).

I think that poll is a pretty clear-eyed view of the team by the fans who follow it most closely. There's an optimist-pessimist mirror image, but the majority thought the team would take a ~10-point step back from last year. Which is a completely logical prediction - considering the team had a new coaching staff, lost some decent players, tough division, etc.

The media's just chasing ratings. Winnipeg doesn't have enough fans to warrant Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver level coverage, and doesn't have a McDavid-level superstar. Our closest thing to a superstar is Hellebuyck, but his style is so un-flashy he was 3rd in an NHLPA poll of "who's the best all around goalie right now?".

was just reading this disrespectful poll and looked into the data. i didnt realize helle is NINE wins ahead of the next best goalie. despite having the same amount of games played. he also has the best SV% and GAA....unreal season.
Wins are more of a team stat, as is GAA. SV% (and, if you're into that kind of thing, GSAA, GSAx) is about the best measure of their individual talent.

Screw off Murle for predicting the Blues upset the Jets at the end of Spittin’ Chichlets.

I get all that..

.but the POINT is that the talking heads are PAID to talk about hockey for a living and provide context for teams ACROSS the league. and be "experts" on the NHL.

If I had the job I would work hard to at least be aware of what's happening in other markets. And just repeatedly ignoring the best team in the league and blowing off the Jets and thier accomplishments and repeating internet hot takes. that portray them as weak, soft, or lucky ..is disrespectful.

Sure, they're paid...but what are their qualifications? Former players who can speak clearly and don't look like the back of a bus.

They're paid to provide the coverage their network wants them to provide. If the people at Sportsnet wanted them to talk about the Jets more, the producers would have them do that.

The one place where we do get some respect....

The NHLPA released its annual player poll on Tuesday

NHL arena with the best ice, 44.9% of respondents chose the Bell Centre. Edmonton's Rogers Place came in second with 14.87% of the vote while Winnipeg's Canada Life Centre landed third with 10.77% of the vote.

Its not disrespect ... I don't know why people get upset over someone's opinion.
When they have a panel of 4 or 5 talking heads discussing who is #1 and don't mention the Jets in the top 5 ... I completely ignore anything they have to say plus a put them on a dislike list going forward.
They don't care because if there is only a million Jet fans compared to 10 million Leaf fans. Majority of these talking heads only care about the numbers and want to be liked. The good ones don't care how many people like them they just want to tell the truth and be right.

I still don't follow the huge drop off narrative. Look at your list of players

Monahan was here for 34 games
I was concerned about Dillon
Schmidt? ......come on
And a back up......

For me the two key people to the success this year are Samberg and Arniel, maybe coaching staff in general.

I think the expectation of a drop off was not based on a decline in the roster. It was that the PO gave the impression that the regular season performance was not a true indication of the strength of that roster. People expected them to fall back to their true level. I picked them for 3rd in the Central. I expected growth from Samberg and Perfetti. I did not expect the coaching staff to be as successful as it has been.

I don't think Monahan's net effect would have been near that good. Names doesn't score enough but the line has been effective with him there. We got an upgrade on 2nd pair D and a downgrade on 3rd pair. Brossoit was a bit of a loss but Comrie has been nearly as good.

The fan poll showed that the talking heads were not that far off in having reasonable expectations for a regression by the Jets. Even Jets fans expected it.

I think Arniel and the rest of his staff were the secret sauce that made the difference.

Yep, I think the biggest differences are coaching. Putting Ehlers on the 1st pp. Getting Schief and Connor to play D helped a lot. I mean, the progression in Samberg and Perfetti's games is probably in the norm and predictable.

Monahan was a complete dud non-factor in the playoffs last year.
He was awful.
Everything he did well in the regular season disappeared.
He went from great puck protection and board battles to losing just about every situation that came up.
Toffoli was worse, he did score a goal but overall he was hot garbage.
I feel way better about Nemes maintaining his level with his line-mates than last years crew.

I think coaching played a part in the PO loss too. Bones wasn't able to adjust and he wasn't able to get Jets back to playing their game once they got away from it. Allowed Avs to dictate play.

Miller has also made a difference and could have made a even bigger difference if they hadn't healthy scratched him so much. He made no difference for us last year as I think he got one or two games.

I'm just saying if the people who paid them were upset with it, they'd say something.
Sure...but does that mean Jets fans should just be happy we're being shit on by the hockey media community?
I'm pointing out a reality you aren't even arguing with...You just keep making excuses for it.

..do we "deserve" being shit on by an entire industry??

I guess it's fine if you are happy having the media shit on us....
..but don't act like it's "normal" or "fair coverage" .

I'm not suggesting that. Your point was they're paid to to talk about hockey for a living and provide context for teams ACROSS the league. and be "experts" on the NHL. There's nothing there about fair or balanced, just that they're ignoring them and they're paid not to. They're not paid to not ignore the Jets.

Also, personally, I don't really care if they don't spend half the intermission gushing about the Jets.

i don't even know what you are arguing here.. your entire point seems to be to disagree with me no matter what I say about this...despite agreeing with me on every point.....
