the disrespect is real and continuous.

On the respect side, TSN's Hayes, McLennan and O'Neil were pushing for Hellebuyck for Hart after last night.
He 100% deserves it.

Offensive players are a big step down season wise from the past couple years. Makar is a good candidate but I don't think this is his year.

Hellebucyk has been outstanding all year and an absolute workhorse.

Taking a historical lense, this is a Hart season.

The last 2 playoff no shows are gonna weigh on peoples opinions. They keep my excitement somewhat muted.
Yup. Winning a Stanley Cup is tough. How often does a team just show up in big season and win it. Off the top of my head, almost never. Most teams build up to it with a series of long runs or a finals loss.

This 100% for me.

I dread a repeat of the Colorado series...and wont feel great about this season until they are competitive in the playoffs. President's Trophy and out in the 1st round is a failure. Getting destroyed in the 1st round would be cataclysmic.

The Kings, Canes. Blues... Happens a lot. Devils, ducks, habs, oilers 2005 all made the final with mid seasons.

Latest Athletic power rankings article, why each team will win and not win:

Why they’ll win: Everything feels to be lining up for the Jets this season. A likely division win means they’ll avoid Colorado in Round 1 (and maybe get a worn-out version in Round 2). Connor Hellebuyck is at the top of his game, and the other stars are shining bright. Plus, the Jets are as deep as usual. It feels like the likely Presidents’ Trophy champions aren’t getting the respect they deserve right now.

Why they won’t: Since the 4 Nations break, Winnipeg is 22nd in the league at five-on-five in goals/60 and 19th in shots/60. That’s not awful, but it’s certainly not great — and maybe a bit ominous, given how things have gone for them in the recent past.

While those offensive metrics are a far-cry from those stretches where we were scoring 6-goals a game, we have also been missing Pionk and Vilardi, and Ehlers, for large chunks since 4Nations. But during this span, the team has seemingly tightened up defensively, so it kinda balances out?

Didn't I read somewhere the Jets were best in the league 5 on 5 since the 4 nations?

Edit: Second in xGF%, third in GF%. That article is crap. Team Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

lol the Jets are also 8th in the league in xGF and 1st in xGF% at 5-on-5 (SVA) since the break.

If it was the reverse, and the Jets were significantly outscoring their xG, the same analysts (Dom and friends) would say it was unsustainable.

But Winnipeg is 15-7-1 since the break despite several key injuries while going through a bit of a cold spell in shooting percentage (9.17% at 5-on-5, 19th in the league despite being 8th in xG).

If anything that just makes it more impressive that the Jets are cruising to the President’s trophy while beating several of the best/hottest teams in the league (wins since the break include the Stars twice, Blues twice, Oilers, Knights and Caps).

Much more than previous years, this Jets team is controlling games at both ends of the ice. They’re the best team in the NHL.

It's disappointing I thought Connor and Schief had a chance at a 100, but, the slowing down should help get him signed for cheaper and keep more depth.

Now that Barron has realized that teams will just let him crash the net and score, nothing can hold them back now.

I'm with you, I'm just posting the article. Also the whole premise was a reason why each team will win and why each won't win so they had to come up with something.

It is worth noting that the Jets were 3rd in the rankings, and Dallas was 2nd. Dallas' why they'll win is Heiskanen is coming back, and why they won't is that they'll be in a very tough battle with Colorado.

even this….

it was presented with the back handednest of back handed compliments…

McLennen said”hockey people know, they know, there’s no other superstars in winnipeg”.

Yeah. cuz you don’t pay attention Jamie or talk about, or promote any of them.

Well, he's not wrong. How many superstars are there in the league? 10? The fact that we have one is impressive.

I ain't sayin'.... I'm just sayin'...

Id like to add there was a supposed goalie on Kyper and Bourne at the beginning of rhe season, I can't remember his name but he's supposed to be a goalie stats guru, who was saying that Stolarz was going to win rhe Vezina

There are still a lot of folks in the national and local commentariat that cling to the notion that the Jets' skaters are bad and the team is just Hellebuyck and a mediocre team. Hellebuyck's brilliance helps them justify their huge misses in predicting the Jets' performance. The reality is that if you compare the Jets' roster of skaters to most other very good teams they match up well, using metrics like xGAR/60. So while I think Hellebuyck is a generational goalie, I think much of the accolades are tinged with begrudging giving credit to the rest of the team and coaches. This Jets team has been the best in the NHL over the past 162 regular season games. That's more than goaltending.

Jamie McLennan? The goalie whose career highlight was being used to goon someone in a playoff series? Boy oh boy, I’m sure glad he chimed in 🙃

The fact that they grouped is with the bottom teams is obscene. We had 110 f***ing points last year.
