the disrespect is real and continuous.

I'm pretty sure the TSN power rankings are based on stats and models, vs some of the other ones who are just a couple of dudes pulling stuff out of their asses

Both methods are about as equally valuable IMO... just a reason to get people to click

At the end of the day, we have these things called "standings" that contain actual results
Ah, but as determined in the President's Trophy Curse thread, the standings are also meaningless! :sarcasm:

At first I cared what the media personalities said about the Jets. But now I treat them like the regular HFBoards, fvck their opinion.

I do understand their position, the last couple of playoffs did not instill confidence. Especially with a core that’s been intact for a while now.

Until they can get back to the 3rd round, the media collective will continue to doubt them. And that’s fine by me.

I look at the Avs and TB. They both have experienced the highs of a stellar regular season only to crash in the 1st round. I believe the Jets are on that same path to winning it all. A Jet fan can dream.

The last 2 playoff no shows are gonna weigh on peoples opinions. They keep my excitement somewhat muted.
Yeah, whenever I watch a review by a non-fan, this is what they bring up on why they have a guarded opinion on Jets.

That said, I'm good with the Jets being disrespected, I think that helps keep them hungry (potentially). Unfortunately I don't think opposing teams are taking the Jets lightly at all, I'm sure they know how good the Jets are. But if they don't that's an advantage for the Jets.

In the case of pundits, they probably don't catch a lot of regular season Jets games, but probably do watch them in the playoffs. So the sample doesn't favor the Jets.

Also, aside from Hellebuyck, the Jets don't have anyone you'd call a superstar. It's a team built on depth that's well coached, has Vezina level goaltending, and a good powerplay - but there are no MacKinnons, Makars, McDavids, or Matthews(es). All our best guys are a step down from that.

But those teams with Mackinnons, Makars, McDavids and Matthews(es) don't have a a superstar in net, their goaltenders are a step down from that. Possibly more than a step down.

Offensive star power trumps goalie star power. Think of the astonishing offensive skill plays that get you out of your seat - like Perfetti's goal the other night...then you've got MacKinnons and Makars doing that stuff once or twice a night? That's the sizzle that sells the steak!

And Hellebuyck's style is about as unexciting as it gets - unless your kink is solid positioning.

Actually my kink is winning. McDavid gets you out of the seat all the way into the wild card spot.

If our Jets team was Toronto Scheifele , Connor, Ehlers and Morrissey would be labelled superstars i guarantee it. And Helly would already be named best goalie to ever play the game.

Hockey Writers power rankings came out today. Jets are #1. And the Hockey Writers get respect around here like Jets do in TO. And I think that is funny, even ironic.

While i agree playoff results are obviously important but having the regular season we are having is just incredible. Just me but to basically be 1st overall for most of the entire regular season is something i never thought i would see in my lifetime.

Yup. I would have bet on a Cup before that. Really. A hot goalie and a little luck can get a team to a Cup. Doing this for 74 games was not in my crystal ball.

And as demonstrated by the Jets the last 2 years, the PO are also meaningless. Sigh. We are but a speck in the universe.

Edit: Posted this ^

Then read this: @Buffdog
It's getting awfully nihilistic in here lol

Helle for Hart!

Really. I know it doesn't go to goalies very often and maybe that is as it should be. But this year Helle should be that rare exception.
