It’s bizarre and really disappointing coming from a big of Meier’s play in San Jose where he was really good at 5v5 in big minutes.
I think the Devils will still be dangerous this year as long as they get healthier but there’s no doubt they can use an upgrade in net. It shouldn’t be hard. Never been a Vanecek fan since his Caps days and Schmid got horrendously overrated as a prospect with a small sample size rookie run last year. I suspect they will have another option in goal soon enough.
Probably the most consistent. Mostly does what he needs to do and is expected to do. But he offers nothing beyond that. Perfectly fine second pair / #4

That .908 save percentage isn't anything to gloat too much about. Especially at the price tag he is going to cost Winnipeg for the next 7 years. Winnipeg is doing pretty well but Hellybuck isn't really playing at some elite level.
The GM made tons of mistakes at roster level. It was easy to predict this year will be a pull back. Their biggest problem last season was lack of offense from defensmen. You can check stats from the games against Carolina, that is the reason why they did not advance. You can't have one d man scoring only. Their roster is no where near as good as last year. Also, it's a bit different roster. You can't keep turning your roster over, you wont' build a team. That's exactly what they did. Most GMs do that. It's a disease.

Wings are ahead of the Devils (and have outplayed them in both head-to-head games). Flip Hischier and Rasmussen or something and you really believe Devils roster construction could compete with the Wings?Wings fan giving a take on roster construction.
Hellebuyck is now back to form. He’s riding a hot streak, going 6-1-0, 2.15 GAA and 0.927 save %, which is his typical elite play. This has helped the Jets drive up to 6th overall and… oh, holy crap, we’re tied for first in our division as of last night.

The point with Hellebuyck isn’t really about how’s he’s playing in this short stretch to start the year. It’s about how if the Devils had Hellebuyck, or another solid goaltender, we’d know he’d be able to help the team turn their season around. Instead, the goaltending situation makes that somewhat more questionable.
I think the Devils will turn around their season to some degree anyway. If they had good goaltending, I’d be more confident in predicting them turning it around enough to make the playoffs. It could still happen, but that roster flaw gives people pause.

The hell are you talking about? Besides drafting a goalie in the first round where exactly does the wings roster excel over the Devils? Just because the Devils are playing badly doesn’t mean they are this bad.
Besides goaltending what exactly do you think the Devils are missing?
The season is still early and a lot is going to change. It’s not like the wings are locked into a playoff position at this point so I really don’t see why you’re being so cocky.
Then why did so many hockey gurus favor the Devils to win the Cup?

Gotta love how Devils fans entered the season with cup aspirations and have now settled for (maybe) having a roster that (on paper) looks more attractive than the Wings though.
Only all of your Red Wings homer takes. There’s also no “maybe” about it lol. Add that to the list.
Haven’t settled for anything believe me, but congrats on fighting for the WC less than a quarter of the season gone. Get back to me when the Wings make the playoffs, let alone win a series.

Also you realize that even fans of bad teams can comment on the status of the Devils, right? If the Wings miss the playoffs that's in line with expectations. If Devils miss the playoffs that's a massive failure.

You make "great" arguments about me and the Wings, would be really interesting if at some point you decided to discuss the Devils. But maybe that's too sensitive a topic. Given that you're triggered by a 'maybe' it sure seems so.
Again, when your frame of reference for a "great" argument is "take away your good player and flip for one of our crappy ones, and we have a better roster", I don't think your assessment of good vs bad counts for anything. It keeps with your track record actually, but still if I were you I'd aim higher.
There have been several Devils fans expanding on reasons for their start, think you should sit back and study them because it's obvious that you're clueless. This roster is coming off a top-3 regular season finish and playoff series win - if that's a badly constructed roster, then god help Detroit.

If you can’t accept that the Devils D is still a work in progress I don’t know what else to say. They can’t sign any long term defenders because they still have Nemec and Casey coming up. That’s part of roster construction.
And nothing is wrong with Meier. Before getting injured he was on a nice point streak.
None of the team is playing good. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good. If you really want to believe that Severson, Graves, and Tatar are the reason the Devils were good last year and not be embarrassed that’s on you.
