Chytil has been their best forward at 5v5 all season. Apparently the Rangers development staff hasn't been able to ruin everyone just yet.
If this is in fact your stance- that speaks volumes. The guy has 6 goals in 22 games. Solid but not lighting the world on fire!

14 mins for Laf and Kakko. 0 PP1 minutes.

22 minutes for Hughes. 20 minutes for Bratt.

And we wonder why they're not where we want them to be.
The same people who criticize the kids, defend the decisions to cut their minutes and not let them on PP1.

We should be playing them as much as possible. By the time we realize, it'll be too late.

That 4th line seemed like it was out there every other shift in the 3rd. I get wanting to be a little more defense minded in a tough game where you need a point, but it's not like Blais/Brod/Gaut are the next comings of Guy Lafluer. They're just as bad as the kids defensively.

Edit-Yes, I'm aware the kids played more than the 4th line in the 3rd.

I took a look at the shift chart and it is not the 4th line that was getting all of the ice. Here is a list of the shifts taken from the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period through the end of regulation:

Brodzinski
Chytil
Trocheck
Zibanejad
Trocheck
Zibanejad
Brodzinski
Chytil
Trocheck
Zibanejad
Trocheck

I think the perception that Brodzinski's line was taking the ice time from Chytil's line is because after 4 shifts of only seeing Zibanejad's and Trocheck's lines, we were wondering where Chytil's line was, and then Brodzinski's line gets the next shift.

The point stands that they need to be used more at even strength. If we are keeping Chytil, Kakko, and Lafreniere together, then they should be used like the 2nd line at even strength and not as an afterthought that the coaches try to sneak out for a shift here or there. It's baffling because they are generally our most effective 5v5 line.

It's less baffling when you listen to GG speak. For the Kakko goal he gave all the credit to Miller. Miller was great, but that ignores the work that Chytl did. On the Chytl goal he gave the credit to Panarin. He isn't supportive of the kids. So his decisions once Kakko and Laf were moved to line 3 (THANKS TO TROUBA NOT PLAYING WELL) were obvious to us all. The guy couldn't wait to make these changes.

It's actually incredible how much bitching and moaning there is after the team just had a huge comeback victory against one of their biggest rivals led by our kids. Some of you just love to be f***ing miserable.
Imagine the hot takes if we gave up a 2 goal lead and lost in OT.

It’d be days of non stop pant pissing about how the locker room’s an entitled country club.

When cameras moved to bench after the GWG, Gallant had a "why him" look on his face -- he did not look happy.

COUPLA DINGS:

1. A year ago, many if not most wanted to move Chytil, who seemed to have underwhelmed.
Bern said NO NO NO, he's been injured, not correct linemates, etc.
Play him w/correct linemates like I said, give meaningful mins, he will produce.

As is obviously visible from emergence of kid line starting latter part of last year, and also that he has been our best F last coupla wks,
it is incontrovertible that -- on this one at least --
bern WAS RIGHT
his detractors were wrong.

2. Similarly now
Kravtsov is wrongly sitting
despite playing well in limited stint
no ? he has to play over Vesey.

bern is calling out Drury and GG
yet some insist
they're pros,
bern can't possibly be right (again, and btw not the first time)

so they are ok w/us taking a loss on the return for Krav

EF NO
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

bern is again right, deal Vesey, play Krav

I don't get them all right all the time but I get them right more often than many admit

it was a good game at least esp later on
unfortunate we could not win in reg and deny Debs a pt

there is concern that we were not better in reg ep 5 x 5 as we were in OT at 3 x 3

but overall, one big concern exception, a thumbs up

for the nth time
EFFIN PLAY KRAVTSOV, TRADE VESEY

A few positives:

Panarin has been playing much better. Cleaned up his sloppy play. And has shown considerable grit in battles these last few games. It makes a big diff.

Schneider stepped up big time. Wasn’t perfect but was very good for long stretches. Miller had a similar imperfect game but ultimately was strong.

Chytil, great.

Gauthier looked better. Brodzinski was decent. Kakko was pretty good.

That Kakko goal could be a legit turning point for the team. The speed and decisiveness of that goal was in stark contrast to the rest of the season. Chances are it won’t be. But that’s the kind of confidence booster the team has needed for a while.

The mediocre/bad.

Trouba is fighting it with his injury and against better opponents it’s hard to watch.
Laffy had a rough night. He needs to play even more aggressive. Kid line likely gets more if Laffy was better at the little things in this game. He ruins possession too often because he’s not forceful enough in traffic and then when he does have the puck in space he’s lacking confidence. Gonna have to give him more ice to work through it
Zibby is really fighting it right now. Just kinda lost a bit. He’ll find his way but he’s out of sync, with himself.

Gotta bring back Jones at some point, no? Maybe can’t afford to bring him up re cap but he is much stronger as a player than Libor is. Libor looked over matched by the speed of the Devils.

The Kakko goal was very nice and might very well be a confidence booster. That being said, Devils fell asleep on that goal. Maybe they were a bit shellshocked by the Trocheck game-tying goal. Miller with a conventional dump-in, Chytil gets in first and finds an activated Miller, who manages to slip behind two Devils and sends it across to Kakko, who also slipped past his man.

Led by our kids who had their minutes and line cut even though THEY LED the comeback. You see the frustration now? We want this team to make smarter decisions for the short AND long term. Happy with the win. Frustrated with the coach.

Unfortunately, Dolan is not thinking of the long term.

Minutes cut is an exaggeration. They were the second line last night at even strength. The main difference was two powerplays and the bad start to OT.

The last 10 minutes of the game saw the Mika line get 3 shifts, and the Trocheck line get 4. Kids got 2. 4th line got 2. So this is not really correct. I like Trocheck so I don't hate him getting a lot of time. But this is why the kid line doesn't work. It allows GG to make sure Goodrow and Vesey got the time when it matters, and our kids don't develop unless they make a lot out of less time. Which they did yesterday.

It's not my stance based on a feeling, he leads the team in P/60 at 5v5 by a fairly comfortable margin, 38th in the entire league. Not sure why you overlooked his assist and point totals in favor of just goals either.

Last year the bitching a mnd moaning was worse and we had a better record.

Sorry if some see that this team is underachieving and not developing our highly rated prospects well. This was supposed to be the year the kids take a big step. Instead gallant stepped on the kids

Said it in the Laf thread, but no win is good enough and every loss means we have to rebuild. Impatient fanbase, which is exactly what people said when the Letter was sent out. Chytil was drafted before the rebuild even started and he just turned 23. the best thing that has happened with the development of the kids is actually being on a winning team.

Hate that I couldn't watch the game (stupid NHL Network), but what a comeback! Nice to see them end the Devils' road win streak.

PS--What's with the dumb postgame thread titles? :scared:

Chytil looks great and Kakko would have 10 goals with better puck luck. Why are people still acting like they stink?

Mistakes happen, it's usually what leads to a goal against.

The kids moved the puck FAST and STICK TO STICK. Uptempo hockey, like Kreider's goal, is what a lot of the people labelled as negative here are asking for. In the playoffs the kid line was the only line that moved the puck with speed and as a unit, that has fallen off a bit partly because Laffy is struggling with his decision making (something I again put on the coaches). There's a whole new generation of players like eg Mercer, Jarvis, Zegras, Hughes, Caufield who are lithe and quick and move the puck and yet none of them would look great on the Rangers the way this team is coached/managed.

In my view the coaches and the talent of this team, and the way the game is heading, are not really on the same page. It's perfectly possible to make that observation and be happy as a peach about the win at the same time, imagine that.
