I would sign Toews if he would play for us for one major reason.

He knows how to win.

When Davidson decided to strip this team, by default he was piling us losses. Now he is trying to break out of that funk and it's not working. Toews can help with that. If Foligno wants to give him the C he can.

There is also no pressure in Chicago for Toews. If he comes in, plays a season and scores 20 points no one will care. He gave it his best shot and everyone will understand. If he goes some where else he's probably looking at the same treatment that Kane got in NY. He doesn't need that crap.

As much as I would like for it to happen, I don't see it happening here for the same reason Davidson wanted to let him and Kane go. He wants the room to develop their own leaders without the deference to the legends walking among them.

It might be a little different if the room has grown on its own without him for a couple years. But if you're Toews, why would you come here when you can probably sign anywhere you want?

Absolutely. For faceoffs alone. The team will never be 100% rookies, young guys. You need some vets. Way too many stiffs on the team now. He will retire a Hawk and jersey raised to rafters.

I thought about that too. I now disagree with Davidson on how he didn't want Kane/Toews back. Especially with how this team is playing 3 years later. Proof is in the pudding.

Crosby played with Mario. You need the old guard to help the new guard to learn how to win. Toews/Kane could have helped with that. Toews probably still can. Kane might have a season left as well after this one.

Definitely would be cool to see him play as a hawk again. Would love to have him and it's not like he'd be any worse than the average player on our roster.

I doubt KD would sign him though. KD seemed adamant about shooing away Kane and Toews as fast as he could.

There may be folks who disagree about letting Toews and Kane walk to make room for new leaders, but you absolutely do not bring them back after several years. It will disrupt the locker room way worse than if they had stayed as lifelong Hawks.

Given that this team is garbage, it wouldn’t bother me if they signed him because it can’t hurt, but it’s hard to imagine that coming back next year at age 37 he would have anything to offer that couldn’t be done in a pure coaching role. I don’t even know how realistic it could be for him to get into NHL game shape after being away for years, both physically and skating.

After reading his GQ interview of losing 20 lbs in days of extreme diet and inductled vomiting and how his body struggled for years. I think if he tries to get back into game shape, his body will not hold up for him.

My memory of his last season was him looking absolutely gassed after the first few shifts of basically every game. I just can't see a return happening. Maybe he signs a contract and it takes a few practices to realize it's just not going to happen.

Same. Maybe his conditioning has improved since then but it was pretty bad last I saw and he’s only gotten older.

Definitely wouldn't want to mess up the amazing mojo they have now!

Dunk on me all you want. It's all fun and games until Vlasic and Bedard request a trade. Then we are Buffalo.

*edit* I'm not even going to bother leaving this comment here. Just baseless paranoia on my part.

I can't believe that the team is as bad as they are after going from guys like Katchouk/Raddysh/TyJo to Teuvo/Bert/Hall. On paper, the latter trio are much better hockey players.

Yet the team is still shit.

I’m not really that interested. What’s the upside? Novelty? Is there something I’m missing?

Well...remember he went awfully Country Cub on us after the last Cup and his visit to Machu Picchu ...so no ...adding that version of Toews to the albatross #4 and his Country Club non-chalance habits is beyond what any fan can take..

He probably can help on faceiffs...but apart from that there just will not be the hard checking and taking pucks away that characterized him in hos heyday...We do not need more lazy cheque cashing vets ..$9.5is enough and beyond endurance to take the rest of this season+5 more after this season.. Addi g another Country Club Master will not drop us in the standibgs *cause we are kast anyway) but it sure will notcauae any rise up tgexstandibgs for us.

Now..if tocketcsakes drop
,WirtzCo may panic and they sign him just to sell tickets.

Call.me cynical...

My answer is a big fat NO!!!!

Add in good Soda verse the abortion he was in net last year, and you would think the results would be better. Truth is we were outscored by 1.35 goals per game last year and have cut that to .78 differentail this season which is about what you see with the eye test as better, but still not quite good enough. We were REALY REALLY bad last season like terrible and are just run of the mill bad this.
