The campaign for PK Subban to be the next captain has started

hmmm quote function don't work right.

I honestly think he already is the face of this team. When you think Canadiens he's the first thing that pops in your mind, at least for me anyway. Was on the cover of NHL.com as our playoffs ''representative'', is being picked in EA NHL cover polls etc..

Not to mention being our best player, and contending for the Norris already.

He's our franchise player with Price and soon Gally.

But you got what I mean. A captain has extra PR duty that Subban would probably excel at. :)

I repeat what I said: I don't want us to make the same mistake as Toronto. Let PK develop and gain experience. When he'll become Capitain, it's going to be because it'll be obvious as HELL that he deserves it.

Kind of like Prust at the moment, IMHO.

I see Gallagher wearing the C one day.

A campaign? Its the players that will decided not the fans.

Btw, the hate for Gorges is ridiculous. Some of you are very immature.

After next year and Gionta is gone, it's a long shot but I think Tinordi. Kid is showing maturity and went right after Neil last night backing the team up. If he is a regular all next year and develops into what we hope, he could be captain starting the 14-15 season.

Who cares if you score 0 goals in a season or 60.
Either way doesn't make you less or more of a captain.

How you are on the ice, on the bench and in the room.... is what matters.

It would be a joke around the league. Prust is great but still not an impact player. He leads by actions that are sometimes dumb and he says dumb things.

These all HELP the team in some way, YES. But these are not things captains do. Those are things agitators do, like Steve Ott. We'd laugh at BUF if he was their captain.

Prust is a guy that you appreciate and you want SOME element of their game in all your players. But he's not exactly a model player like Plekanec or Markov who are consummate professionals and command respect instantly.

Also, the captain has to also be locked in a for a few years. I'd be uncomfortable granting a 4th liner that type of invincibility.

Markov has already refused to be the captain in 2009.

Don't think this is true. I remember when Gionta was named captain Jacques Martin said that he sat with Markov to explain to him the decision and he was completely fine with it.

I'm in favor of rewarding players that served the team for so long at a very high level. Maybe the word rewarding is not the correct one, I mean giving them more responsibilities, Markov or Plekanec may not be the best choices but they've served this club for so long and were for a long time the best players on a consistent basis at their respective position. If Markov doesn't want it (he may retire anyway), Plekanec is my choice. They are both great professionals and true role models.

Oh please, he sticks his hand on Neil and he's captain material? I guess Galchenyuk is in the voting as well since he stuck up for Eller?

Gallagher is giving everybody on the team a run for their money as "There Mom's Favourite Player"

Subban should wear an 'A' first then when he's a few years older he can have the C. No problem with that.

But I think we should take our time in thinking about who should wear it next.

Gorges? It was his to lose, and he lost it IMO.
Gallagher?Too young
Pacioretty? Interesting, but until he goes to the net he can't wear it.
Plekanec? Probably the best choice. He's a competitive, respected leader and he gives it his all for the team. My choice for the next C.

C-Plekanec
A-Prust
A-Subban/Gorges

We?

Eller? Is that you?

PK has taken it to the next level this year, but I'd rather him not have the C at this point. When he's older I'd have no problem with it. Give it to Prust, trade Gorges!

The league has gone a different route as well this generation. Is there even a bottom 6 captain today? Horcoff maybe? And I don't see him keeping it long. One of their young stars (Hall or Eberle probably) will be taking it soon. Most teams go with their best (or one of) players now. Age and experience not as important as it once was. Look at Toews, Landeskog, and others before them. I really doubt it ends up as Prust.

Ryan Callahan is borderline top-6, he's a great leader. I remember last season, we had our #5 defenseman as our captain in my team.

Forgot about Markov. He's my pick, for sure.

Guys like Toews and Landeskog are special kinds of characters. It's like they were literally born to be captains.

Why? Your captain isn't expected to necessarily be your "star player". Especially if he only have a salary of 2.5M$.

You need to worry less about what the others think of you and more about what's best for this team. Prust has proven to be an ever-leader, going time and again into the breach and fighting the Fight. He stands up for his teammates whenever he has the chance, and tries to change the momentum of the fight with good hits and fights.

Where Gionta is expected to score goals (and might be failing), Prust is expected to be physical (and always deliver). I'd even argue that "leading by example" would make Prust a much more effective captain than Gionta is. Simply because the role of Prust makes him likely to deliver every game.

At some point in the future, PK could definitely wear the C. He's already the face of the franchise, works hard, can handle the media just fine.

But I think it's more realistic to expect an 'A' sometimes in the next 2-3 years. He's still young, he can be captain later.

My guess is Markov will be the next captain. If not him, then probably Plekanek.

And to those saying Tinordi or Gallagher... :handclap: Come on. Maybe in 4-5 years they will start thinking about giving them an 'A'.
