Honestly, I think it should be Plekanec. I think there's no question he has everyone's respect in that lockerroom. He's consistent and durable. He's been here forever and I think he can handle the media because he's quite calm, reserved and poised. Also, he has the quiet confidence that will help him handle the pressure. And he's still a great player.

He'd be like Gionta but better.

Prust is cool and all and I respect him for what he brings but he needs to stay the hell away from the captaincy of Les Glorieux.

I'm not going to say Subban would fold under the pressure of the "C", but it might make him think he has to do that much more. All he needs to keep doing is exactly what he's doing right now.

Although, depending on what happens with Gionta (you never know, they might re-sign him on the cheap), Gallagher might be in the running a few years down the line. Kid is a class act, always smiley, and has the work ethic to influence an entire team.

I'd love to see Subban as a captain, but I get the feeling he wouldn't be a unanimous choice among his teammates - at least in the past...maybe he's won over his doubters. I hope he has.

Otherwise, depending on how next season unfolds, I think Plekanec, Gallagher, and maybe even Galchenyuk would all be good options too.

In today's game, a leader is not only a leader in the dressing room, but also a leader on the ice - not only through hard work, but also through the magnitude of his impact on the game.

Either way doesn't make you less or more of a captain.

When Gionta is gone, Pk Subban will get the C

Certainly not next season. Many good qualities but needs more.
Have him sign a long term contract before.

He is not ready for these duties.
Captain is the player dealing with the referees.

Maybe by the end of next season after Gionta is gone.

Edit: BTW, in four weeks we could even see Price in that role.
Many options but Gionta is the Captain till end of next season.

He'll get an A someday, but we don't need to make him captain. Even while I am not the happiest with Gorges lately, he probably deserves it. My personal preference would actually be Pleks.

The person who EXUDES captain...is Brendan Gallagher and he just so happens to have a number that has in the last two decades been worn by two awesome Habs who were made captain (Muller for far too short).
Down the road maybe, hopefully. When he gets facial hair.

I honestly think he already is the face of this team. When you think Canadiens he's the first thing that pops in your mind, at least for me anyway. Was on the cover of NHL.com as our playoffs ''representative'', is being picked in EA NHL cover polls etc..

Not to mention being our best player, and contending for the Norris already.

He's our franchise player with Price and soon Gally.
