I heard a couple of people on french and english radio mention it. Michel Bergeron/ Mario Langlois & a couple of guys on tsn690.

What they said is that he shows up for every game...

When Gionta is gone, Pk Subban will get the C

He shows up for every game, plays the most minutes and should be our best player for the foreseeable future. Just hope he keeps it up. He's so fun to watch right now.

Right now I think it's between Gorges and Prust.
Don't judge based on talent.

I'd rather PK not have to put up with the media bullspit that comes with the captaincy. Saku shouldn't have had to deal with all that jazz when he was here. IMO a great young player should not have to be captain.

I think his maturity level has increased as well. I believe he should be the next captain. I wouldn't be surprised to see Prust keep an A too. I could see Subban, Pacioretty, and Eller, being the future leadership group here. Though both Gally and Chuky could move into that group later as well.

EDIT: It also depends on if we're talking next season (Gionta traded) or the one after (when his contract ends)

I already consider Subban to be one of the most mature guys on the team, all he needs is the experience and he'd make a fine captain. Gorges is next in line, but once he's shipped out (not saying it's imminent, but switching teams is not unheard of for non-core players) Subban should be in the running.

And Prust? No thanks... Can you imagine Jean Beliveau calling an opposing coach a bug-eyed, fat walrus? It was funny, but there's a certain amount of dignity that should come with the title.

It should be Prust. I really do. Gorges is too soff, he's too nice and I just don't see him as leadership material.

Plus, Prust is a great talker, he screams alpha male, his teammates can feel confident that he'll stand up for them.

Prust for C

Good morning, this is your next captain speaking. Please return your tray tables and next captain threads to an upright and locked position. At least until Brian gets traded.

Subban is captain material, definetly. He wants to have that sort of impact on his team. He just isn't sure how to get there.. yet.

Thing is, the best captains need 2 things: 1) Want to be a prime motivator for their own teams and 2) Need the experience to understand what to do, when to do it.

Subban will get there sooner than later, I am sure of it. But right now, I feel giving him the C, or even an A, would be big mistake. I feel the C put undue pressure on Phaneuf in Toronto, and even if Subban is good under pressure, it's the sort of burden that might distract him from his already loaded plate.

He'll get there. Bergevin himself admitted Subban is captain material.

We have a lot of good options in the future as captain.. Prust, Gorges, Gallagher and Subban play with tons of heart out there and lead by example and Tinordi seems like a born leader too.

The league has gone a different route as well this generation. Is there even a bottom 6 captain today? Horcoff maybe? And I don't see him keeping it long. One of their young stars (Hall or Eberle probably) will be taking it soon. Most teams go with their best (or one of) players now. Age and experience not as important as it once was. Look at Toews, Landeskog, and others before them. I really doubt it ends up as Prust.

There are all sorts of captain; no single mold should determine what a Captain should be.

If Prust's brazen comment can fire up his teammates and pull a win, I'd say he more than deserves the C. Who cares about gravitas, i want team chemistry.

This isn't pure physical science, it's biological application :naughty:

People overrate who wears the C so much it's not even funny. Good teams have 8-10 good leaders and they don't wear the C...or an A for that matter.

Plus, Gionta is an excellent captain so not sure why people keep bringing up "player X should be captain".

Because Gio has one year left on his contract...:help:

Don't know how Gallagher is in the locker room, but from what I'm seeing on the ice, he's definitely captain material.
