Could have sweetened the pot and gotten retention.

Sorry why couldn't we pay that price for Zadorov?? A third in 26 and a fifth in 2024? Huh.

Because we have higher ambitions, that's why they want Flames to retain salary, have cap space for multiple acquisitions. If it was going to be Zadorov and call it quits then they should have matched or beat what the Canucks offer.
