The Buffalo Sabres set (or at least tie) an NHL record tonight.

Not sure what’s more surprising , that the Sabres won a game or that they set a team record that didn’t involve consecutive games lost. Things are looking up in Buffalo!

I've never liked the thing where a player who never touched the puck gets credited for a goal. That just seems counter-intuitive. McLeod, for example, will now have a higher shooting percentage after not touching the puck at all.

Here's something I've always wondered: Who gets credited with a goal in the following situation?:

Face-off with one goalie pulled. The center-man of the team with the goalie pulled wins the draw so cleanly that it's clear that the opposing center never touched the puck at all. Meanwhile, the puck goes straight back and into the net of the center-man who "won" the face-off.

???
Pretty sure that gets scored as a "TEAM" goal

This is the closest I can think of to what you described.

In this situation the goal was awarded to Gagner as the player taking the faceoff.
