Genuine question here, do bruins fans feel like their team kept the wrong goalie or is it too early to tell?

A star athlete is not your average joe. Trying to think what you would do in their situation is silly because if you were in that position your entire life leading up to that point would be completely different from where it is right now.

Maybe he wants to ensure his family is set up for multiple generations. An extra 10m would go a long way to accomplish this.

You think that star athletes should get what they are worth, nut if ownership does not feel he is worth that, than the star athlete has a decision to make, finish business school and run a business and make decisions that are good for the company or just give employees what they think they are worth. or he can sit out the next two years when the rules will allow him to move on.

They are two great golaies....but if I am a betting man, I put my money on Swayman surpassing Ullmark and not looking back starting this season. If the Bruins can land him at 8x8...they made the right choice.

Or hes just simply using his leverage and trying to negotiate a higher pay than what he is being offered. Youve never once negotiated your salary with an employer before?

On December 1, he has no leverage, in two years he gains leverage, those are rules in place, but I guess he thinks the rules are different for him.

No it doesnt, but theyre not going to come anywhere close to contending without him. Hence the punting away a year or two.

They knew it was going up, but to your point, nobody could point and definitely say we're looking at 9+ in the 2 years. It's still not an easy comparable other than looking at what a player signed for and where that player sits in a top ranking list.

And Swayman isn’t going to punt a year or two of NHL games and salary away either

One of them will end up accepting the other offer, or he’ll be traded

once the ink is dry everyone will move on just like Leafs fans and Nylander after he was out until 12/1.

If the ink never goes to paper it’s a different story.

But, in reality, they didn’t really have much of a choice after Swayman went on that run. The fan base would have revolted.

Sorokin is a favorable comp to Swayman regardless. All UFA years, a much better Vezina finish, further playoff success, etc. just think that the 8.25 number is absolute max.

If he were to accept the reported $7.8 aav for 8 seasons - that would place him as the 5th highest paid active goalie (not counting Carey Price)…And he’s got a lot of catching up to do regarding games played when compared with his peers.

Exactly its a game of chicken, and Swayman is clearly doing everything in his power to extract as much as he possibly can from the Bruins which is within his right to do so.

You're actually arguing my point.

References are different based on overall life situation, but that poster argued the money should be more important to Swayman than that guy's friends because it's, well, more money.
 
The Bruins have 26 games between now and Dec 1st. Of those swayman probably would have played 2/3rds so let's say 18 games and korpi would have played 8.

With swayman in net let's say boston goes 11-7. How much difference would having korpi/bussi over those games change their record to start the year? Maybe 2 or or 3 or 4 extra wins? But this contract is for 8 years.

I can't see swayman not giving in on Dec 1 either, since then he just gives up 8 million and probably has to change teams.
 
If Shesterkin signs for 12.0 Million over 8 years what do you think that makes Swayman worth to the Bruins? I see this as the "comp" as it is a current negotiation. Recently, top goalies have probably been underpaid in relation to their importance to the team. Especially in the playoffs.

That whole RFA v UFA thing though.

EDIT: Not to mention the starts. It's not a fair comp IMO
