Speculation: The Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are far apart in contract term (length) and dollar amount.

Teams turn the screws on players for the first 10 years of their careers and then get weird when a player turns it around on them the first chance he gets. Neely is a fool for breaking publicly.

You might have a point if Swayman had even been in the league for ten years.

As a Bruins fan i wouldn't be surprised if a lopsided trade not favoring the B's happens. I hope I'm wrong but typically the owners don't like or play ball with players like this.
I’d agree here. Under Jeremy Jacob’s, they are not afraid to trade anyone, espiecally disgruntled players. Adam Oates publicly said how Boston was stingy and didn’t replace cam Neely etc, Boston stripped Oates of his captaincy and traded him to washington. Jacob’s doesn’t play around.

Boston never traded Oates to Boston :laugh:. In all seriousness though, the Jacobs' clearly aren't afraid of making controversial trades. Which ultimately may or may not be a positive. We will find out in seasons to come.

He isn't asking for 8 though. If he was this would've been done already. It's been abundantly clear the Bruins would be willing to go to 8-8.5 the whole process because they left that much cap open. Swayman wants more than that and is refusing to play until he gets it, which anymore than 8.5 would force another roster move. That, to this fan, is absolutely booable.
I'm not opposed to what you are saying, just curious is there really that much on the table? Do the Bruins have the rest of their roster filled out and that much left for Swayman? If so, weird he hasn't just signed for that much.

Trading Ullmark was just really dumb. Surrendered all of their leverage.
Yes, but the flipside is if they still had Ullmark, Swayman would be gone anyway. They could not have paid Swayman what he wanted and still kept Ullmark. Of course, maybe even with that, maybe keeping Ullmark was the play given how greedy Swayman is being. Becoming a starter for the first time in his career and he thinks he's already worth that much?

So never really heard Neely talk as an employee of the Bruins. Honestly dont know how long hes been there but my immediate thought was what a moron. True as someone said above, Neely didnt say the actual number but Im sure the adults in the room for the Bruins thought SHUT THE F up. So the bruins have fumbled this everyway possible, some of it being out of their control and now at the eleventh hour their negotiation tactic is to make the star player they are trying to sign to a friendly deal look bad in the media. Sure Swayman wants more then he is worth based on performance but wouldnt be shocked if this pushes him in the opposite direction of what the bruins wanted. Either a trade request or not budging at all on the money he wants. As far as Cam goes, management should promote him to bruins publicity as thats what he is really there for. Business dealings does not seem to be his fit.

Dont believe Swayman is being greedy. Hes been in league 4ish years. These guys have to get what they can get while they can. Could be injured in his next game and never play again. Could become Matt Murray and never have a shot at the high money again. The bruins totally botched this whole deal. They knew this was coming and did nothing to prevent it and as someone else said, traded ullmark before the new deal.

We can't really make the numbers work, but I say trade to the Sens. We will send back Forsberg.

then we have a nice little experiment with the teams swapping both goalies.
Makes sense. Hell he’ll probably sign for way less just to regain the bond he has with Linus. Just send Brady back and it’s a done deal!

Both sides are probably being greedy. And he chose this line of work where he can be injured next game and not play again. He has his business education from Stanford to fall back on.

Though in that era you had another one who was basically Jacobs little puppet, Sinden. Who not only traded the players but burned all bridges he possibly could with them

This is just wrong. B's had to trade Ullmark or they would be offloading him under duress at start of the season. Swayman surrendered all his leverage when he declined arbitration. He has no option to sign anywhere in the NHL but Boston for two years

Boston could put a contract offer down for 2 years $5m AAV no trade restrictions and Swayman would sign it before Dec 1, I guarantee it. Otherwise he's playing in Sweden for $500k. Boston has not done this bc they want a long term deal.

If B's signed Swayman first these posters would post things like "Why didnt they trade Ullmark first, now Bruins have no leverage in trade negotiations...".

Well that's one way to put it. I have another opinion of Monty Burns. You are right, and it took years to get free agents to sign here because of Jacobs

Bruins fumbling the bag on this big time. Between the timing and the return of the Ullmark trade which is leading to this entire fiasco ..fireable offense. My guess is he wants $9.5M and they're not budging at $8M.

The Rangers say thank you very much though. If they give Swayman a bag I don't even wanna know what Igor is asking for.

It appears this agents tactics more often than not force the player to get the deal done themself.

I wouldn’t be all that surprised if the same thing happens here. Bruins know full well that conversations with their netminder push things further than dealing exclusively with slugworth.

He's been president of the team for like 15-20 years.
