Speculation: The Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are far apart in contract term (length) and dollar amount.

Why would Columbus want to sign Swayman to an offer sheet that would force them to give up their 1st round pick in 2025, at a minimum? That pick is most likely to be top 3OA. No rebuilding team is giving up that high a pick for a goalie.
Any rebuilding team should. Wouldn't you rather have $1 million than a lottery ticket that can give you anything between $0 and $1 million?

That analogy falls apart when a guy like swayman is only worth a #10-#30 overall in a given draft.

That's been the price for a guy like him for the past 20 years, they'd be crazy to give up a likely top 5 pick

Depends on where you are in the rebuild. A team with no foundational prospects and multiple years of building doesn't need a 26 year old goalie making $10 million because they won't have a team in front of him to do anything for the remainder of his prime. Then you'd also have given away your draft picks to build a proper program around him. Timelines can't be accelerated like that.

A nr 1 star goalie is only worth a #10-#30 overall in a given draft? Yeah, I don't agree with that. Just take a look around the league and see how many teams lack a nr 1 star goalie.

A goalie's prime can last until his mid 30s. You don't think the Blue Jackets are ready to compete by then? If they aren't, their expected nr 1 C Fantilli will be pushing 30 and basically wasted his career.

Not a good analogy. Goalies are not worth a 3OA pick, and putting a goalie like Swayman behind a young, rebuilding team makes little sense.
All their defense except Jiříček are veterans.

Ullmark just went for a late 1st and cap dump. The high water mark for a younger #1 is schneider at #10 overall.

There's not much appetite for giving much more than that both in actual deals, and from talking with fans on here (lots of underwhelming offers on here for Helle when he had 1 year left).

What about the first and first round prospect for Askarov? That seems like a high benchmark.

Training camp doesn't start until Wednesday. No reason to panic just yet, the Bruins have started started training camp with unsigned RFAs before. Pastrnak, McAvoy and Carlo all didn't sign deals until a few days into camp.

Next week, if there's still no deal, would be the time to start thinking there might be a significant or lengthy hold out.

Didnt this happen with Pasternak and he just ended up signing some sweetheart deal in the end.

Boston can't start the season with Korpisalo and 2 others goalies with 3 nhl games in experience.
they need to fix this case quickly or the season can be very long

Worst case scenario…

Bruins play 25 games before RFA signing deadline day on 12/1. Swayman would probably play 17 of those.

So, roughly, Korpisalo is playing an extra 9 games and Bussi an extra 8 over 82 games. And, honestly, if Swayman doesn’t start until December 1st, don’t you think they would ride him a little extra later?

If the Bruins go from a playoff team to a non-playoff team because of that, they have bigger problems.

I know people are citing past examples with the Bruins getting a deal done at the last minute, but what was their cap situation compared to their current one? Is it similar or no?

The Bruins have 9.5m available just by switching to running 13F instead of 14F. What cap situation? If Swayman wants to hold onto a 9.5m ask (if true), he is free to go find an offersheet from someone willing to give him a 5x9.5 and be willing to give up 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd, or give him the full 7 years and give up 4 1sts.
