Probert was more than punching guys in the face. Just like McCarty was. In Detroit at least, Probert was a legit top 6 forward who happened to be great at punching face.

Agreed. Probert broke the Red Wings record for most points in the playoffs in 1988 when he had 21 points in 16 games (It was later broken by Fedorov, tied by Yzerman and then broken again by Zetterberg). He played in the All-star game that year as well.

74 games 29 goals 33 assists for 62 points. 398 penalty minutes.

It was one helluva season.

appreciating this thread for all the new info, I don't think I had ever seen this photo

Are people actually arguing that Probert was a better player than Norm Ullman? I answered the OPs question on the first page.

Dionne can also be a passable answer but he didn't play in Detroit long despite being a better all-time player than Ullman.

There are no wrong answers when the bar was set at Abdelkader. You wanna argue it was Damien Brunner? I got your back.

There's a number of great players not mentioned yet who were briefly Wings but never won a Cup. HOF members Brad Park, Darryl Sittler, Bernie Federko and Borje Salming for example, but like Dionne, Ciccarelli, Alfredsson should not be eligible for this prestigious award.

If the question is - who played the best for us and didn't win it? - like who put the best Wings season together?

Its some answer of - Dionne, Coffey, Ciccarelli, Lang I think was on a MVP run that year? - and probably Hossa?

If the question is who was the BEST player in their career but didn't with it with us...

Sundin? Alfredsson, Modano, Clark, and probably Kane?

Sundin was on on the Wings? When was this?

Cujo…

While his time in Detroit was short, injury prone, and a bit of controversy (dunno what Holland was thinking when after signing him he goes and re-signs Hasek).

Guy had a great career otherwise.
