What are you complaining about cap wise? The only cap they eat is Erik Johnson who would be the 2nd best defenseman on their roster if this trade were to occur.Vancouver gets gutted for prospects who likely won't ever be as good as the players they're being traded for. And they eat a whack of cap for their troubles
They're moving out two high-end NHL centers and an elite offensive defenseman for two prospect centers and a prospect defenseman and the opportunity to move up a dozen or so spaces in next year's draft. They also get to eat $5m in dead cap in each of the next two seasons and pay out the final year of Erk Johnson's contract.Vancouver wins this for sure on value. Doesn't fit with their plans apparently. Which I don't agree with since all of Newhook, Turcotte, and Byram are NHL ready and on ELCs, their value is sky high. And a likely high 1st round pick next year in a strong draft? Pure value perspective this is robbery. They might take a step back this season but they're not a cup contender anyways. 2+ years down the line this trade would be a massive win.
Mediocre for Colorado and LA

Yeah but it also comes with NHL contributors on their ELC. And Johnson is worth his cap hit. Maatta is only for 1 season.Retention cap + Johnson + Maatta is around 13m year 1 and 10m year 2.
