OT: The Avalounge (mod warning - No Politics)

So, this afternoon I had a conversation with my dad for about the first time in six months. He was talking about the house he always wanted to build "So that's how I'd build mine. What about you?" "Steel I-Beams for studs, AR500 steel plating welded between the sheets with Rockwool on the outside and in for insulation. Walls cemented in to the foundation for the first 3 feet with piles extending 12 feet below the basement foundation. Springloaded shutters on all the doors and windows with zero access internal locking lugs every 4 inches, basically a large house looking Big bullet proof metal box with geo thermal heating and cooling, because when someone comes to tell me I under paid in taxes and they are here to seize my home, I intend to turn that entire front yard into a hellscape of napalm and gunfire. I'd clad it in a nice stonework, and paint it a nice deep green."

I could feel my dad getting a big grin as he said, "I'm so proud of the man you've grown into."

Don't forget gasoline in the sprinkler lines

This state is very beautiful, weather is a bit bipolar lol.

So far we've been around Longmont, Loveland, and Lyons. Thinking about going to Cheyenne 1 evening to see what's it like.

Then Estes this weekend, then onto Colorado Springs area

Yeah, it does that. Pretty soon, we'll get to the summer and oscillate between "dry and hot" and "dry and too goddamn hot", but for now everything is still open season hour to hour.

Glad you're enjoying it though! This is a great time of year to be here.

Yea, spring in Colorado is always a bit of a shitshow. Beautiful days. Thunderstorms. Temperature dips. Hail storms. And occasionally even a late season snow flurry.
Man, Alaska is like that. If you don't like the weather... wait five minutes, it'll change.

The constant sunlight during the summer provides the backdrop for some stunning scenes. Huge dark clouds covering the majority of the sky. Storm is looking threatening but hasn't started yet. But because the sun is still on the horizon at 11pm, the trees' leaves look like they are literally glowing green with this dark, gray sky over them.

My wife used to paint when she was younger. I keep trying to get her to do a quick and dirty Bob Ross landscape painting of the valley we live in but she's just won't commit. Kinda like me to making the damn coffee table I've been threatening her with for two years now. *LOL*

I thought that doc retired and they don't do those operations down there anymore?

We used to make the joke about Air Tran having their hub in Trinidad.

Anyway the procedure is also more widely available too.

First time back in Denver since summer 2018. But only as a pit stop on our way to Alaska. Finally went to Sam's No. 3 diner. Not amazing but really good for the price and quantity of food. I think we'll go to Bao Brewhouse for dinner.

Anyway, we'll have to come back for a much longer visit.

At first he did not know how to do this kind of operation, but he learned by studying diagrams and notes from Johns Hopkins Hospital.

"I mean I've never done it but I'll have a go if you want, can't be that hard." Good thing you want to hear from your surgeon.

I love Sam’s. The snooty people around here don’t like it but I love good old school diners. Legit choice!

A few other thoughts on Denver: I absolutely love the train from the airport to downtown. Pittsburgh needs that. Didn't use any of the other public transit because we walked everywhere. My wife's phone said we walked 9 miles (very walkable city, nice and flat, and clean). We tried to go to a smaller art museum but there was a mix up with the schedule. So instead we went to the Denver Art Museum and that was massive. Neither of us are artsy but really enjoyed it.

And then dinner at Bao Brewhouse was good too. Fast as well.

The airport's TSA Pre-Check wasn't all that efficient.

Random question. There was a discussion on this many years ago but I'd like to see if positions have changed.

When discussing the Avs (as fans) should we use the term "they" or "we"? Should we have the audacity to self-identify as part of this team? Or should we recognize that they are their own thing as we are just witnesses of games and treating it as more than that is just a sign of an unhealthy infatuation?

1530 miles later, going to miss colorado, but good to be home.
I always try to ensure I take enough time off to have two full days at home before I go back to work after traveling for more than a week or so.

Basically, I like to give myself a "weekend" whenever I come back home from a trip greater than one week. Even if I come home on a Tuesday....I'm taking Wed/Thr off.

Hope as things calm down from the big trip you are able to distill it all into some incredible memories.

It was foretold. Mel Brooks made fun of the consumerism in his orignal. It's only appropriate that the sequel is a complete f***ing cash grab. The fact that when he finally got around to making History of the World Pt 2, he went with Johnny Knoxville as the star. *record scratch*

The original had Gregory Hines, Madeline Kahn, Dom DeLuise, Sid Caesar, Harvey Korman, Ron Carey, Orson Welles, etc... It was a masterpiece and baited a sequel in the end-credits before baiting sequels in end-credits was a thing.

I prefer to think the sequel was never made.

Yeah, the whole joke about the title "History of the World, Part I" was that he never intended to make part II. Brooks himself joked that he would never make a part II. "Part 3, part 4? Maybe! But never part 2!"

I adore Mel Brooks. He's a personal comedy hero of mine, responsible for two of my favorite movies of all time (Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles) and a bunch of other amazing comedy works of art. But after watching part of HOTW 2... I have to wonder if he even still has it anymore. I really want to believe that he can still do social commentary mixed with humor that's somehow both highbrow and lowbrow, but I'm going to be skeptical until I see the reviews come in.

I mean father time is everyone who has ever lived to zero. Mel is in his late 90s. I'm not sure he was even knows he made the sequel.
