I don't think there's anything wrong with being a homer like Jack Edwards if he's doing regional broadcast.

Being a homer goes all the way back to Foster Hewitt with the Leafs and Danny Gallivan in Montreal

Hewitt owned the radio rights in Toronto on the old CKFH which today is the Fan 590

CJCL - Wikipedia

Boston for decades was blessed with Fred Cusick on TV and Bob Wilson on radio who are both in the HHoF.

Wilson on the radio could be sarcastic

In his perch in the press box in Montreal, Bob Wilson, the longtime radio voice of the Bruins, led listeners through his pregame setup. It was a potential series clincher for the Habs. With almost a stand-up comic's refined delivery, The Voice fired off the names of Montreal's hot scorers. Based on Wilson's frustrated tone and, the French names rolling from his tongue in near perfect accent, another end was upon his beloved B's.

"That rounds out the Montreal attack," boomed Wilson, segueing directly out of the roll call of Canadiens scorers. "And who do the Bruins counter with, but Lyndon Byers . . . who couldn't put the puck in the ocean if he was standing at the end of the dock!"

How does this work? I lived in Montreal from ages 1-4. and the first ever NHL game I saw was at The Forum.
Am I a "Gros Bonhomme" as well? Thought I'd ask.

Well, you could be but he used it a lot for Latendresse as he was a "big body player" to steal from McGuire.

Or presence.

Nothing wrong with being a homer for a regional broadcast. I prefer a more unbiased approach but it is what it is and lots of teams have a home field tilt. BUT the stuff that comes out of Jack Edwards mouth at times is complete fanatic lunacy, bordering on demented hate speech. The guy is a psychopath with a microphone

I am not terribly surprised by the Red Wings being so low considering after Daniels and Redmond (who some people don't like but I think is a national treasure) the rest of the crew is pretty abysmal. Osgood has gotten better over time but is still stilted and doesn't do a good job filling in as color, and Murphy was more fun during his first stint. Everyone else involved in the broadcast I could do without.

Personally i am not too familiar with burke so i cant rate him but howie rosen was amazing, billy jaffe was ok but now butch goring is just horrific. I definitely feel that no matter what the isles crew is a downgrade from where they were a few years ago.

The devils crew i just cant stand cangelosi and im not really fond of danekyo but it may be due to just disliking cangelosi. I find emerick to be top 2 for worst announcers in all of sports but strangely enough i liked chico resch. I found him to be goofy but i heard him say some insightful things during broadcasts.

Howie Rosen is a great broadcaster, but he's better suited for baseball. Burke is an upgrade on him.

I might not mind Cangelosi because I never minded him as a soccer broadcaster. He switched over to hockey nearly ten years ago, but I had heard him call so many soccer games by that point that I got accustomed to his broadcasting. It might be easier to judge if you only hear him a few times a year for hockey. One of the problems with judging local broadcasters is you might know them from the other sports they call, so your opinion of their broadcasting might not be limited to their hockey calls. It's sometimes hard to separate the two.

Good ranking, imo Ducks, Pens, Bruins and Avs are also the worst. Well, the Pens actually not anymore, Steve Mears is okay.

No idea about the 29th ranked Wild, can't remember watching their feed.

Nashville should be bottom 3. I can't stand Daunic and Mason is just ok. Better than Stu Grimson but that was a LOW bar.

What will Edwards be like when the Bruins eventually are a <.500 team? I feel like he will turn whiny quickly.

The f*** why isnt Pierre Mcguire listed anywere on here lmao
Ha it’s only local team’s broadcasters but I agree! Can’t stand his little penis head and little penis voice

NBC finally boots his little ass off the “cup final/big game” crew and replaced him with Brian B. Would have been nice to not have him assigned to literally every single Blues playoff game in rounds 2-4 last playoffs!

This actually goes on to say that the poll for NYR was actually hijacked by Islander fans hence they were down to 13th.

I don’t think they deserve to be any higher tbh. Rosen has a great voice but he’s gone downhill in the past several years. Every local broadcast is biased at times, but it’s always odd to me when the PBP guy let’s his homersim shine over the color guy. I do like Joe Micheletti though.

Rosen and the Kings dude do have good announcing voices, tone, and flow. Wow I got pretty detailed lol

he keeps it entertaining. And what local broadcast doesn't have a homer? lol. Although the main reason Isles are so high is Brendan Burke. Guy is fantastic.

a) He sounds senile

b) I can respect broadcasters being homers if they're like Joe and are just positive towards everyone. Butch is exclusive an Isles homer.

This is an interesting take haha. As a Devils fan, of course I love Chico, but his commentary, especially in the later years on Tv, was pure homerism and not particularly insightful IMO. He was basically the drunk uncle that everyone loved and just shook off his outlandish comments.

Daneyko and Chico are probably both the same level of eloquence when speaking and of course Daneyko can go on his biased rants too, but I think he also has plenty of moments of being incredibly insightful...much moreso than Chico.

He also engages in self-deprecating humor and makes fun of himself for it. But as I said, the high rating is more for Brendan Burke

Going from Shane Hnidy to Kevin Sawyer was a huge downgrade for Jets broadcasts. Beyak is just ok, not great but not terrible. Sawyer is useless. There must be a lot of bad broadcasts out there if an average play by play guy + a terrible color guy gets us to #15.

Those rankings look good imo. New Jersey has a good group but San Joses group is better and def one of the best.

Laughable that they rank Edwards last. Invalidates the whole list to me.

Jeff Rimer of the Bluejackets is going to be Joe Biden's roommate at the Dementia home. He's completely incompetent. Edwards is completely biased but he's competent.
