Get ready. Because we are going to be that bad almost no matter what. There aren't any other teams nearly as bad as the Canucks. Outside of Demko being healthy, Petterson getting back to point per game, and our defense taking significant steps forward we don't have a team that can compete.

I'm also perfectly fine with another 58 points and a top 3 pick. There are plenty of other players that I want next year that aren't Dupont. And it's nice to be able to choose the one that fits your team the best and not just the faller.

Coaching, demko being healthy, younger players playing better are all steps towards finish with more than 58 points.

The only way they can counter against that is if they sell enough vets for picks. Ideally they still finish let’s say 60-65 points while seeing improvements from the younger players but there’s a real scenario where they finish in the upper 70s and we’re drafting like 8 or 9 (which would be awful for us).

Everybody assumes the Canucks will be dumping guys like Marcus Pettersson, DeBrusk, Boeser and even Hronek or EP40 over the summer.

Not a chance that will happen unless somebody steps up with a ridiculous offer for any of these players. More likely the Canucks go into the season with them--and if they're out of it by March, then market these guys at the TDL where the return is likely to be far better.

So if they stick with these veteran guys all year, and they have bounce-back seasons, that's another reason why 58 points again is pretty unlikely in back-to-back seasons.

58 probably not. But, the gap between Van and Chi was 14 points and then Cal/NYR was 19 points. That is 7 and 9.5 outright wins difference.
Like in Fast and Furious, by an inch or a mile. Van just needs to be in the bottom 2-3 in the standings. Need to secure a talented player in the top of the draft.

Our forwards would have a tough time scoring on an AHL squad but behind the blueline, they're average at worst.

The defense is going to take a significant step forward. MP will rebound now that he isn't getting dragged down by the partner-killer giraffe, the kids will all be a year older with more intelligent usage and better guidance, and a non-lobotomized coach will be in charge.

Seems like pretty good odds that we get a lot more value out of the Demko/EP duo than we did last year.

But Foote also single handedly cost us a ton of points last year. I watched so many close games last year where idiotic coaching decisions and ice time distributions could easily have been the difference.

Ideally we trade EP and it's all moot because despite all the shit he gets and most of it deserved, he does a ton of heavy lifting and props the team up. If he goes it will go a long way to counterbalance the boost we're going to get from Foote being gone.

Chicago will be markedly better, and basically the sole reason they were even tanking last year is because Bedard was injured. But they are adding more young players next year and really shouldn’t be close to contending with the Canucks.

New York will challenge us a bit, but they’ve got a prime Shesterkin who’s going to make bottoming out very hard. He was injured much of last year making their tank more feasible.

Calgary is probably our biggest competitor in my opinion. They are going to really suck, just like us.

Ya, totally agree. Not saying it’s a slam dunk, but with further veteran sell offs as we should see, this team should be a bottom two or three team.

Privalov talks about playing both LW and C, how he finds playing W easier because of the lesser defensive responsibility, but he finds C from engaging, and can play both. Implies he was happy to play W because he just wanted to play in the MHL, and being positionally flexible helps. He says he's 193 cm (6'4") and 100kg (220lbs).
