With last place locked up in the 2025-2026 season and a top 3 pick guaranteed, lets focus our attention to the 2026-2027 tank season and the prospects for the 2027 draft.

A year that is just as important to bottom out as this year. Finishing 32nd once again would do wonders for this franchise and their rebuild.

Lots can change but so far the top prospects look to be

Landon Dupont
Alexis Joesph
Nazar Privalov
Carter Meyer
Milan Sundstrom
Sergei Skvortsov
Sammy Nelson
Brock Cripps
Jonah Neuenschwander

Pieces to trade off:

EP40
Debrusk
MPetey
O’Connor
Blueger

Maybe Hronek if we get a godfather offer.

Tank Threats:

Calgary Flames
New York Rangers
St Louis Blues
Nashville Predators
LA Kings
Seattle Kraken

I think at this point, we should be hoping to secure Joseph. But, if Dupont is the leading candidate for '27 draft, gives more hope that a team would take a PMD RHD over a big C which the Canucks need.

That's why I'm fine drafting a Dman with one of the top 3 picks in 2026. Buium and D Petey on the left with Willander on the right. Petey can slide to the right if needed.

Drafting top 3 in 2027 is a must. Insane top end talent. Going to be as fun draft to watch develop.
Yep. Getting Joseph or Privalov especially would finally give us a potential big bodied 1C for the first time since Linden. A hard counter to McDrai, Celebrini, Sennecke etc in what will be a very hard division to make the playoffs in/come out of in the future.

So key. And if you can't get either of those two, Dupont. Any of those three would go first overall this draft.

Not sure any of the top C project to be a Malkin/Matthews level production, but if you can get a big body C who can produce points wise in the 80-90 point range, that's still a valuable piece and centerpiece of your F group.

I'd be happy with top 5. There is so much talent and, at this stage, it's anyone's guess who be at the top. We do know that any player in the top 5 will be franchise altering.

This is what the top 10 this time last year looked like according to Pronman. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than half the top 5 this year isn’t on this list.

Just something to think about when looking at the 2027 draft right now - it’s tough to really get a gauge on what the true strength of a draft is going to be this far out.

It's more hope that the C prospects do develop and fill the gaping hole the team needs moving forward.

I really like Joseph and Privalov. Just that mammoth size and skill that is still pretty rare.

Dupont is fantastic too.

Looking on to 2028 and how we can tank to get Maddox Schultz:

Long time to be bad. That means Buium, Willander, D. Petey would have endured 3 terrible seasons.

Chicago was 3rd worst in '23 when they landed Bedard. Have been 2nd worst in all 3 of his NHL seasons.

You have to either plan or just be awful to be that bad for that many years in a row.

McKenna setting up Privalov would be pretty insane. An elite playmaker playing with an elite finisher. Might have a Marner-Matthews combo there.

Who are the teams that will be terrible next year? Calgary?

Do we have a shot at being last if demko can play 40 games?

Sam Cosentino’s latest draft ranking

1.McKenna
2..Stenberg

No. 3: Caleb Malhotra, C, 6-foot-1, 182 pounds, Brantford Bulldogs (OHL)
This is the time of year when Malhotra shines. He seems to be at his best when the games are most important and most difficult. On a veteran-laden Brantford team up 3-0 in their second round series, he continues to get prime-time minutes in every situation. With plenty of room to pack pounds on to his frame, an NHL pedigree, and a two-way game that’s equally as good on both sides of the puck, Malhotra looks like a centre that an NHL team can build around.

What we need to hope for is to get up to the 6-8 range at least and then get some goddamn lottery luck for once.

You also can't control how bad other teams might be as well. Chicago in the past 4 seasons couldn't out tank Ana in '23, SJ in 24 and 25 and Van in 26. Who knows what other clubs will do doing over the next 2-3 seasons.

Hoping they can at least secure a C in '27 draft.

Do we really need another 5”11 smallish D though.
With the Canucks now, you really don't want to draft smaller guys unless they can be great. Their F prospects are mostly average size like Mueller, Cootes, Dervin, etc. who are in around 6 feet and 180 lbs. The big Swede Alviksson has a long ways to go to make the NHL.

Van can afford to go with a smaller D man given the rest of their young D, though Dupont isn't small like Quinn. On Everett's site, he's listed at 5'11 183 lbs. If the height doesn't change, he'd probably play in around 190 lb.
