Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
This is all about the faceoffs

Good lord.
Nah. There's definitely more to his game. Feisty. PKing. Brings leadership. Can put up 55-60 points. His dawg mentality would fit in well here. The cost is the main concern. I fear it'll be a 1st + Quinn, but maybe more would be coming back.

Would you sign up for a Trocheck trade if it was paired with drafting Bjorck? That’s about the only way I’m on board. If they come out with an organizational plan that says…we’ve invested in this high end prospect (or Malholtra too for this) but we are letting them cook and this is how we plan to add veteran stuff we’re losing with Tuch to our top six while we do it….while also addressing a need down the middle until our ultimate plan is ready in a couple years.
Hijacking the convo.

I'm ok with Trocheck even if we draft Stenberg. Why?
I do think faceoffs matter, especially when you are short on time and on the powerplay. It will help us design set pieces and boost the powerplay in specific circumstances. Mostly important during the playoffs.

We also have Norris and Kulich with a sketchy injury history. Trocheck is a nice insurance.

Helenius and Östlund can both benefit from a C-mentor to cement their place as centers.

C depth of:
Helenius
Kulich
Östlund
Norris
McLeod
Trocheck
Carrick
Thompson

Is pretty solid, if we add Björck to that I'm pretty sure we'll have a couple of legit top 6 centers in the future.
Even if we pick a different prospect Trocheck would mitigate a lot of risk that comes with Helenius/Östlund/Norris/Kulich.

Sure...have the 45 and Krebs

I'd much rather pay 20th ++ for Knies. Definitely not 4th.
That's the hope, but I dont think Toronto does that trade. Eklund went for 9th overall. Tkachuck went for 3 1sts including the 9th overall pick. It's going to cost us a lot. Not sure I want to go down that route even with my love for Knies as a player.

Turning one year of Byram into 5 years of Knies at a good number would be tidy work in a vacuum. As long as I can divorce myself from getting that center at 4. Which I probably can do…but I still think they’re in desperate need of figuring out center.

Also, giving Toronto another top-5 isn't something Im fond of, but I also think a GM shouldn't be afraid of making a move bc he fears what the other team can become.

Yeah. They need to get a 1C whether by trade or draft. The rest is just luxury

Also I’m fine with Trochek as a 2/3C until the kids mature a bit.

I’m pretty much whatever about it depending on the cost.

I’d get it. There are worse ideas…some of which we’ve been linked to. But I have a list of unmovable things unless they’re getting back something that isn’t supposed to be available…and I better not see any of those things.

Gimme Robertson or Thomas.
Trade 4oa just for a C like Thomas.
Or do a package for Robertson and keep 4oa and draft Björk or Malhotra.
Just no premium assets for outdated hardware please.

I was early on the Trocheck wagon as a Tuch replacement. Defensive center who can play PK and PP, heart and soul guy, locked down at a small $5.6M that gives you plenty of flexibility. I’d offer 20th and the Tuch 3rd and go from there. He is a legit top 6 C that you matchup against any other faceoff guy in the league.
