The 2025 Draft Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Tier 1:
1.) Matthew Schaefer

Tier 2:
2.) Michael Misa
3.) Caleb Desnoyers
4.) James Hagens
5.) Porter Martone

Tier 3:
6.) Anton Frondell
7.) Victor Eklund
8.) Roger McQueen
9.) Kashawn Aitcheson
10.) Jake O'Brien

It takes a lot for me to go "WHO?" this far into the process. I did exactly that with Aitcheson.
Aitcheson is a big bodied defenseman who plays with an edge. Very raw offensive tools but the potential is there. I hate throwing out names for comparables but Kandre Miller is a decent idea of what he could top out as.

No offense but Aitcheson is so much a player who is everything the Sabres are not that I doubt they would seriously consider drafting him simply because they wouldn't know where to put all of his testes. The kid is fierce, both in his approach to physical play and in how he tries to improve his game. I honestly don't care that he's a LD, in two or three years when he's fully ready, the d-zone frauds of their current LD group may have already sorted themselves out.

See? I'm not the only one.

Although....
I do have Hagens above Desnoyers, pretty comfortably. Schaefer, Misa, Hagens are all Tier 1 for me. I don't actually see how you could list Desnoyers above Hagens, and I love the player. I guess he's safer? Hagens has 1st line, scoring C written all over him. Desnoyers is, you'd hope, a 2nd line C, two-way menace. A very good player and worthy of a high pick. But I think it'd be foolish to pass on Hagens, who might be special.

I like Hagens as a playmaker. The Sabres have a ton of shooters on the roster and in the pipeline. They need some setup guys.

Desnoyers is being slept on in this thread. I hope the Sabres land in the top 3 and get a game breaker like Misa or Hagens, but Desnoyers has a very similar scouting report to guys like Wyatt Johnston, Anton Lundell, Matty Beniers, Pierre Luc Dubois, and Roope Hintz. These guys all had question about how “dynamic” they could be but there was no flaw in their game. They play simple, smart hockey and produce. He’s got the goods.
Funny you said this and were right. I see he has moved up into the top 5 on a few scouting reports. Pronman has him top 3 now.

Anyone guess who could be playing in the NHL next year? Schaefer? Anyone else?
Tobias Hynninen
Almost 20. Scoring about .75 ppg in Liiga.
Mature game. Outside chance to be a late 1st rd pick. If he goes in the 2nd, I could see him making a forward needy team out of camp.
