Georgia would have won with their QB but I’m impressed by ND. Even if he was in game would have been tight. I feel it’s a total tossup vs PSU, neither gonna beat Ohio State though
No they wouldn't have lol. Beck wasn't exactly gangbusters all year and Stockton played pretty well. ND was all over that GA front line, even without Mills.

This thing is totally up for grabs.

I don’t follow college football at all…but am I to understand the new playoff resulted in 4 first round blowouts and 4 second round upsets? Or, at least, all the teams with the bye lost?

Because that’s awesome.

Yes, but it's also important to note every team with a bye was a betting underdog. I think the Georgia-Notre Dame game was basically 50/50 after Beck was announced out.

I don't think we're going to see the byes exist for very long. The idea of a home playoff game, plus the seemingly large impact of too much rest, is going to drive CFB to a 16 team playoff as soon as it can.

Arizona State: worse team
Boise State: worse team
Oregon: okay you got me there
Georgia: backup QB

The four teams losing after their bye was a strange coincidence and that's it. Please do not change things yet.

Georgia's backup QB isn't an excuse. Beck had some mediocre/bad games this year and frankly ND has one of the best defenses GA faced all year. Stockton still went 20 for 32 for 234 yards and a TD. But ND sacked him 4 times, forced two turnovers, and stuffed GA's run game despite missing some key people as well. And that last drive by the Irish was masterful, with the switch on the punt then burning the clock with several big plays.

Oh and the FG/fumble/TD/99-yd kickoff return TD that essentially put the game out of reach was big too.

No matter how these games shook out people were going to say something needed to change - God forbid the higher seeds might lose.

I think that makes sense conceptually, but as you imply with Oregon, a sensible watcher of the sport knows they should not have had to play Ohio State a second time just to make it to the semifinal. And Penn State should not have had an easier path than either one since they lost to both. They should have reseeded based on the actual rankings. There’s a reason those exist. That would’ve given us:

Oregon vs. Arizona State
Georgia vs. Boise State
Texas vs. Ohio State
Penn State vs. Notre Dame

It would seem to not make sense to put the teams on byes/ conference champions playing each other, but I think over time that would be the bigger aberration.

Comical how the IU people are trolling the SEC & ESPN today - saying GA didn't belong cause they lost to ND worse than Indiana did.

Of course they're leaving out the detail that it was 27-3 Irish with a minute left and both their late TDs were against ND's backups and with a fluke onside kick.

Marcus Freeman reminds me of Jim Tressel so damn much. His emphasis on special teams, dominant defense, and heavy running game.
