The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

I think he probably does field calls, takes trade offers, and calls other GMs to inquire about players that he knows he can't make offers on alone. If you listen to any of the insiders, Adams is always kicking the tires on every player rumored to be available. He has cap space to make moves, yet he never makes any. Isn't it obvious that he doesn't actually have the autonomy to make any moves on his own? It's a dysfunctional committee that can't agree on anything or can't get Terry to approve spending the extra money. In Terry's eyes, Adams is the good soldier who acts like his press secretary, diffusing the anger that would otherwise be focused on how cheap the organization has become the past five years.

Terry isn't going to fire Adams. What Adams does for Terry is almost akin to laying out on the ice to block an Iafrate slap shot with his nuts.
So why did he trade Mitts for Byram and Savoie for McLeod? He makes moves, and I don't believe that Terry controls his every move, especially since Adams himself says otherwise.

Mitts was going to command 7M long-term to resign in Buffalo given that he was out scoring both Tage and Cozens. The committee had no interest in committing that salary to Mitts. He was the only RFA with value that this front office didn't ever start negotiations with. By trading him for Byram they kicked the cap issue down the road another season and saved money in the process. Ask yourself, did this team need another puck moving D more than a top six center?

McLeod was a legitimate 3C making 2M with RFA control.

I guarantee that both of those decisions were made after the entire front office debated it and Terry was most definitely involved.

I'm not convinced. Now they may have to pay Byram more than Mitts, and McLeod may well get his 4-5 million. I think Terry doesn't influence every decision and Adams has some autonomy.

What would be the asking price from the Canucks for JJ Peterka? I'd imagine something quite rich? I know he and Tage are going off right now, so that probably prices him out of a 1st + good prospect?

Is he considered an untouchable for you?

There is no point in us trading Peterka for futures, I don't think he is untouchable, but only a hockey deal. Unfortunately, the Canucks have nothing but EP40 that could seriously interest us. So if you are not ready to offer EP40 for Peterka+, for example, it will be difficult to find a deal.

That makes a lot of sense. He is a fine player. Any shot of him being a centre at the NHL level, or is he going to stay a permanent winger?

I think if the Canucks 'were' to trade EP, Peterka would be a nice target as a base if he can slot in at centre, but I doubt they trade EP at this point. What are you expecting he gets on his next contract? Somewhere around 7?

No, he doesn't play center, he's a winger.

Well it could be something like Peterka + Cozens for EP40 maybe, not that Cozens has been doing well at center lately but at least he's been playing there his whole career.

I don't think Terry is some mastermind and they have a board meeting every time someone has an idea to beg for his approval... I think Adams just too attached to his guys and doesn't really want to give up on any of them for anything short of a guaranteed win. And it's darn near impossible for a Sabres GM to fleece anyone at this stage... other than Dahlin and maybe Thompson every player has obvious warts and every other GM knows the Sabres (as an organization, if not Adams himself) are desperate.

That probably also includes picking up players on waivers that might risk pushing said guys off the roster. He just wants this group to work and won't replace any of them with a question mark, and doesn't seem to mind waiting for FA statuses to force his hand.

Mid February and this ass clown GM has done NOTHING. Several big trades have went down too , Adams can f*** RIGHT OFF
The fact he's still employed is what concerns me most regarding this franchise. It's mind boggling to me, and a sign to me that we're in this shit for the long haul.

We need the Bills back. It's going to be a long offseason. Oyeeee...

Who do I want as my 6th-7th defenseman? Jacob Bryson or Andreas Englund?

Englund 6'3 plays a physical game and a stay at home defenseman vs Bryson 5'9 not physical defenseman who gets caved in.

I would take Kolyachonok, but Kevyn doesn't need it.

The Byram who is in trade rumors or may cause them to trade a different 7 million dollar left handed offensive D?

You think he'll be traded for futures? That's not the point, I was just saying Terry doesn't influence every decision Adams makes. I mean Kevyn should call Terry and ask if he can claim Kolyachonok off the waiver and waive Gilbert or Bryson? I don't believe that.

Adams on Pegula,"We talk every day"

I think its discussed. Maybe permission isn't the right word.

Idk why you think it was going to command 7 mill plus to resign Mitts. There is no indication of that. All reports show that Mitts wanted to stay and there is no reason why we would have had to overpay for him. I think that is a totally baseless assumption

Casey just got $5.75 on a deal that eats up ONE UFA year. The more UFA years eaten up in a long-term deal, the more the AAV goes up. I think a 7 year deal for Mitts last year is easily $6.5M - $7.5M........especially with the cap going up (and it was known that the cap was going up last year, just not as much).

Adams also said that he has all the resources. Talking and making decisions are not the same thing. The owner of Carolina is also very meticulous and constantly talks with the GM, but this does not mean that he influences every decision made.

So you think zero moves from this organization and Pegula has nothing to do with it? When Adams said the answer is in the room you think that was Adams or Pegula?

If you don't think Adams hands are handcuffed then we have the most incompetent GM in the history of all sports.

I didn't realize it was only a 3 year deal. With that I say Avs overpaid.. Casey should be on like a 6 mill 7 yr deal.
