Honestly, I really thought we were past this bullshit with that team, that season, hell, that moment. They really seemed to fight hard for each other and had real push-back as a group. Perhaps that's why I'm so disappointed with what they've become.
The key here seems to be what this team is... When they feel like they are a winning team, they stand up for that. It matters! This is visible in youth hockey all the way up - teams either have an identity that aligns with putting yourself on the line (and your team is built that way) or you have a reason to do it...

Noesen had 3 plays that night that went largely unanswered 1) high elbow on Ras (Ras pushed back), 2) Late hit on Zucker after goal (Quinn went in and got pushed, so no address) and 3) hit on Tage.

A team that cares at all is engaged and mad. Fans that are engaged are mad. But they putter around looking to score the next goal/point of their abysmal season so because that is all that they care about. Young team, no care about winning, no retaliation. This does fall on the GM and the losing etc... they are not engaged and they are not passionate because they are not winning. simple!

It crossed my mind that they don't like Tage, but, the cumulation of events, should have had them riled up. And if not, they should have been riled up after and just found someone else to pay the price (Gilbert, meet Siegenthaler - something).

But they had a meeting and are going to act like a winning team now, so all good.

The "never go full Lehner" game. We thought they turned a corner and it was only one night. They went right back to being all for none and none for all immediately after that.
The number of "turning points" that have happened in the past decade

McCabe Laine hit and comeback
10 game win streak
Signing Taylor Hall
Leafs outdoor game

I know there's many more

Excuse me, I was told the culture was fixed two years ago because the groups of twenty something drank together after gagames.
Yup. Like an alcoholic who doesn't reallllly want to change, but his family and friends had an intervention, so they say they'll bc they feel bad, but after a day or two of not drinking- they falls off the wagon...right back to their old ways.

This team is just saying they'll change bc their embarrassed. They'll try to play that game, then get their shit pushed in a few times, and go back on cruise control again. Theyre not about that life.

We were getting close with Stewart and Foligno in the LU. But I remember complaining about the Roy/Vanek/Pommers core being soft as butter. This era of fans missed out on so much entertainment pre 2008.

Eh, the winning streak was a Skinner hottie and unsustainable goaltending converging. As someone who was lobbying for Phil to be dumped at the first possible opportunity because of how poorly the were structured and coached, that one was all smoke and mirrors.

I can’t wait for this group of bozos to take exception to the slightest bit to prove they are tough and sticking up for each other. As if they just didn’t do anything when it mattered

Just think if Roy, Vanek and Pommers were on the team now they would be the only ones standing up for other teammates.(some sarcasm)

Amazing how the definition of soft or at least the bar in which we hold players to has slowly been lowered over time.

That's fine. Can't control the past

Rather have that than defiantly acting like nothing was wrong. Getting a group of young millionaire athletes to admit they were soft, through their actions, would actually be a nice sign of progress

The move is probably us getting Mittelstadt back for pennies on the dollar. That seems like a galaxy brain move for Adams.

To steal a phrase from the other buffalo franchise

"When they are too soft for them, they are JUST RIGHT FOR US"

They're going to be primed to be taken off their game to prove they aren't soft and fragile, which in turn will prove they are mentally fragile, with the slightest increase in physical play by their opponents. Hopefully we don't play anybody soon that plays heavy...

Roll the dice on Carson Soucy anyone ?
Friedman just mentioned him, has been having a bad year, and has a NTC though

Not sure they can fetch anything of real value that helps the roster... He is cheap, plays hard, getting stronger, has emotion and seems to care. I mean if you can get something of value, sure, but I just don't see what he can garner outside of futures.
We could get a slightly different type of player, I already gave an example above.

Soucy has been part of the problem with Dijonaise before he went to Pittsburgh. He's not been good for Vancouver and it would have to be a reinvigoration of a flagging career to make that sort of move worthwhile. Again, can Adams make a move for a noticeably poor performer in the hope they rebound or is it that he has to find someone who is performing? At least in terms of public opinion, there is no room for anyone to over grow their position within the team - think of how Olivier made it from ECHL/AHL part timer to NHLer with Columbus. That isn't going to happen in Buffalo, it's going to be the high draftees getting the important development cycles and rewarded as such so the opportunity for anyone else to grow into one of those roles won't ever materialize.
