And they already had problems with players leaving there, not wanting to play there, but they continued to recruit new ones and don't stop. I think Jarmo did a very good job at the draft, especially with the Russian guys. Waddell, as an experienced GM, seems to have hired a good coach and made a number of moves. Our GM... is just nothing, even when the team is now fighting for the top 3 draft picks.

Byram +Kulich for EP.

I wouldn't do it. EP still carries some risk with his injury possibly impacting his play longterm + his cap hit, and Kulich is the one young gun that is traded would need to be fire a massive overpayment.

I love Kulich's trajectory.

Buuuuuut I do that deal all day. EP40 is a legit #1 NHL center (maybe not elite, high-end, but legit), which is something we desperately need. Flip Cozens for a RHD then.

I really like Kulich, but if EP is ok with his health (teams should also make sure of that), then I would do it. Although I think we can provide a good package without Kulich and Cozens (if they don't need him). We have a lot of different assets, players, picks, prospects. I mean, Carolina almost made a deal and obviously it was Necas+. So why can't we.

You have to take a chance though. Vegas did on Eichel and won the cup.

I understand the concern and his play has dropped off since the injury but perhaps its a coincidental to the JT Miller feud.

If Vancouver likes Cozens enough to make him a co-headliner in a deal for EP, then they view his contract as an asset and a bargain given future cap projections. Top centers are going to start making twice as much as him as soon as this summer.

Same with Byram. Teams that view him as a first pair guy should be kicking down the door for the chance to sign him long-term for under $7M.

Nay.. Kulich is developing too well. I think the deal can be made not including him.

Miller on vacation: EP40 with 15 points in 9 gp

Miller in team: EP40 with 17 points in 35 gp

Grudgingly yay.

Kulich is rightly treated as near-untouchable. It's easy now to imagine a perennial all-star with a few more years of man strength and experience under his belt. He's one of the best players in his peer group in the world and should continue to be.

But we have to keep consolidating assets in the name of quality. It's just that time.

I will say that EP terrifies me. Between the post-injury fall off and this locker room beef combined with his odd/lightweight personality style, something just feels off.

If things continued to go wrong here for him and the team (and they will, as many of you assure us every day), I could see this move just shredding the already weak organization and kicking off a full rebuild.

Maybe 2025 needs to be the year of Sabres accelerationism either way...

With their captain Quinn Hughes being their top pairing LHD and PP1 QB for the foreseeable future, I would be surprised if they viewed Byram as a top pairing guy. He would be a guy that they would expect to carry the 2nd pair.

And the Cozens thing is all about what Allvin and Rutherford think of the player and what they want back in a deal.

I just think that if they were really high on a Cozens+Byram package, there wouldn't be as much shopping around as they appear to be doing.
 
Trading for EP is the only way this team reels me back in this year other than making the playoffs.

I see the GDT's are barely reaching 10 pages, this might be the lowest I've seen the Sabres on this forum.

Fun fact: I have not tuned into a single Sabres game at all since the middle of the 10 game loosing streak.

If it's that or nothing, you make the trade.

They can't continue to miss out on moves that add the best player in the trade simply because they like their young guys so much.

Please god yes. There's nothing worse than the Kevyn Adams holding pattern we've been in for the past 4 seasons.

Take a big swing on EP and fill the other holes on the roster. There's a good chance that this could actually work. The team finally takes a step forward into the playoffs.

Or it backfires and the team gets even worse. And it forces Pegula to abandon the Kevyn Adams playbook.

I get that EP has risk, and admittedly I've watched this team a lot less recently while kulich has played C so I haven't witnessed as much of the good as everyone else.

With that said, there was a time when Quinn, Peterka, cozens were untouchable. I distinctly remember a post from someone saying they weren't sure they'd include cozens in a package for mcDavid.

We have to accept that we might have to trade someone we legitimately don't want to part with, who's playing well, if we want a player like pettersson.

I, for one, am glad we saved all that cap space just in case every player had a career year.

Now we have all this cap space for players we can't recruit or trade for!

Those cap projections make me more worried about the direction of the team. I think we are sinking or swimming with pretty much this current roster, sans Byram, as I think he’ll be flipped for low cost magic beans.

So as of now, love them or hate them, our two centers make about $14 mil, EP40 will make that alone (including cash bonus money). As much as I’d like to hate on Adams, there is way too much evidence that almost all moves are cost related. He’s a hockey guy, he knows he needs a RD. It’s like Mitts/Byram, he kicked the can down the road one more season.

Sucks being a Sabres fan
