The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

The Canucks may not find a trade package they like enough to pull the trigger before the NHL trade deadline. Miller and Pettersson may yet finish this season in Vancouver. Fundamentally, however, club leadership doesn’t believe that this core can win together as it’s currently constructed.

It’s why Vancouver has been actively trying to move Miller, including giving prospective buyers permission to speak with his representatives, and has been listening with an open mind on Pettersson.

In consecutive weekends the club came frustratingly close to executing blockbuster trades with the New York Rangers (for Miller) and the Carolina Hurricanes (for either Miller or Pettersson), respectively, but hasn’t been able to get a deal (or two) across the finish line.

I will continue to stand by faceoffs mean nothing at a macro level. It's individual game situations where it is important and starting with possession isn't a cure-all.
I don’t think he disagreed with your point - he’s just saying that Adams was focused on details like FOs when he still had a ton of work to do on the roster, which is true.

Faceoffs are just puck battles - you need to be able to win more than half of your puck battles throughout the year as a team, but whether those battles are in the dot or not doesn’t matter. So I mostly agree.

Does anyone have the cards for Cozens or Byram?

Here is the site. Its free to look up any player.

Have to think the Canucks would be interested in Clarke? Does LA have the ammo (ie center as well) ?

I can't tell what Weekes is implying by "Keep an eye on" for this situation. I highly doubt they're looking to move Clarke just because Drew Doughty is now healthy. That would be really stupid on their part.

I think he's implying watch the Canucks. Hopefully not. But this is what happens when you dick around and don't get a deal over the line.

If they move him, it’s because they’re at the cap with no one coming off. Clarke makes nothing so moving him doesn’t help their cap. How would they possibly fit $11m?

They could trade him, but not for Pettersson, unless they include Fiala or something. And Cozens/Byram is a better package than Fiala/Clarke

I'm not sure this is implying that Clarke is the one that gets moved. They've got quite the dynamic (similar to ours) going on with three lefties being over 20 min (Gavrikov, Anderson, Edmunson)....and Gavrikov/Anderson on their top pair.

If one assumes that their top 4 is then some combo of Gavrikov, Anderson, Edmunson and Doughty........that doesn't leave a lot of room or time for Clarke AND Spence in the lineup.

I could easily see Spence being the one moved to clear the way for Clarke.

Something smells fishy with the Pettersson/Miller charade.

Its taking way too long and things are being made way too public.

Maybe Vancouver management doesn't know what do? Not in the sense that they're incompetent, but the decisions they make now could easily decide the direction of their franchise for the next decade.
They dont know what to do so air your dirty laundry out to the public. And lets do it in the middle of the season. You are talking about decisions that decide the direction then why are they airing their dirty laundry for the world to see? First class organization.

When has that ever worked?

I am just saying, something smells fishy here like they have no interest in trading Pettersson and are using the media and other teams to solve their problems.

I think it depends on the team’s play style too. If you win an offensive zone faceoff, and then just throw away the puck with a low percentage shot then it’s useless. If you’re the type of team to win the faceoff and have like 30 seconds to a minute of offensive zone time leading to a good chance then it’s important (Tampa Bay in recent years was good at this).

Most teams aren’t good enough at maintaining possession for it to matter in the grand scheme of things though. The Sabres win a d-zone faceoff, and dump and chase (but forget to chase). So it’s pointless for us.

Nucks brass has managed to outdumb the Sabres. Eichelgate sucked but Adams at least kept his mouth shut.

Yea, going scorched earth might bring more suitors to the table, only takes 1 dumb GM to take advantage of.
Its pretty hard to put the genie back in the bottle once that happens.

I have seen players fight with management and coaches but between two players? Rarely has anything been so public.

Even TSN was saying enough was enough about it.

Its become an untenable situation being played out in the media.

Also to have Jim Rutherford speak out puts Patrik Allvin in an awkward situation. Its becoming a real clownshow.

Wonder if Bettman will do something about it. Bettman needs to tell them to shut up and play hockey.

My opinion is Miller gets traded and the Canucks were never serious about trading Pettersson.

Maybe so, maybe not. Millers NTC complicates things, maybe move whichever one brings the best offer?

Everything is rumor at this point but I read Miller was trying to force a trade to NYR and they almost had a deal and it fell through because of a disagreement with the 1st round pick.

Vancouver probably wishes it was the off season right now. I am sure they would have a different approach.

With this sort of thing, seems like they're going to have to move both because there will be residual issues in the room.
I wonder if it is affecting other teams? No way Cozens and Byram haven't heard the rumors.

This is what bothers me about it being public.
