The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

Again, I don't know what Adams is asking for and whether it's true at all. Target is to get 1C, forget about some small additions if this is a stumbling block.

I'm starting to worry that Kevyn is trying to bring in some prospect the Canucks don't want to part with (Willander or Lekkerimaki), he's obsessed with prospects and young players.
I am hoping the deal is ready and there are other pieces being negotiated, like a Krebs for 2nd or something. Give them Byram Cozens and Krebs, fine by me. VAN gets two centers back.

The main thing is not to be greedy, we already have the main core and it will not be so difficult to add the necessary parts by the beginning of the next season.

When Chad D talked about it today, he brought up a lower level prospect in Jett Woo as a potential fit as a RHD who has seemingly fallen out of favor in Vancouver.

And then part of me then wonders if that's why they waived NAK to bring up Kozak -- we're "grooming" Kozak to be the 4C the rest of the year. Trade Cozens for EP40.....then run a center spine of EP40-Kulich-McLeod-Kozak the rest of the year and hope Kulich and Kozak keep progressing as they have been.

Maybe something LIKE: EP40 and something for Cozens, Byram, Krebs and maybe something non-roster. Then run:

Zucker-EP40-Tuch
JJP-Kulich-Tage
Benson-McLeod-Quinn
Malenstyn-Kozak-Greenway
X: Lafferty

Then move Greenway up if Benson/Quinn are struggling that night.

I don't know if we need Woo or if Kevyn needed him, but it's unlikely that such a trifle can be argued about. I think there are teams in the league that could make a better offer than Sabres, the question is whether they are really interested in EP40 and what Kevyn is ready to do to get Pettersson. As I understand it, Sabres have been monitoring the situation for a long time and they really want to get him, it seems even Lance confirmed it.

A do-it-all RHD who is wearing an A in Abbottsford as a 24 year old might be nice for Rochester. Yeah, his offense hasn't come around as hoped.....but he's still a good skater who isn't afraid of the physical stuff.

I could see Adams being in on him as a throw-in.

No, I know who is Woo, I remember his draft, but what I'm saying is that it can't be a problem in trade for Pettersson, that Kevyn insists on including Woo in the deal and Alvin refuses. That would be ridiculous.

I think Cozens can be good for another team if they let him play wing on the 2nd line. He’s never going to become what the Sabres have been trying to turn him into, and at this point a change of scenery would probably do him and the Sabres a lot of good.

Having EP as a good 1st line center and Tage as a good 2nd line center could be the start of something good. I think between Kulich/Benson/McLeod there could be a good 3C already on the roster. We also have Helenius and Ostlund possibly slotting in there in a year or two.

Fixing the center spine could go a long way to turning this ship around.

Frankly, Kulich is making a helluva case to be the 2C. That JJP/Kulich/Tage line has been working real well since being formed. McLeod as the 3C is a perfect fit for him, then Kozak as 4C.

Yeah, I'd keep Kulich as a 2C for now, if he doesn't do well you can always put Tage back there, and Tage looks great on the wing too.

I don’t know if everyone has noticed…but Tage hasn’t been playing center. Kulich has And Tage has taken off like a rocket.

Cozens continues to look like a monkey humping a football trying to play down the middle…but I’ll assume it’s because they want to pretend he is a center long enough for someone to believe it.

Either way…they have never needed to trade for a big time C more than now. They have a rookie doing it.

I know I mentioned that the JJP/Kulich/Tage line has worked very well......and I'm still trying to figure out HOW. 3 shoot-first guys shouldn't work as well as they have been. Granted, Tage's passing occasionally gets overlooked......but I'm still a bit confused as to the why that line is working so well.

if you believe Chad, Buffalo has been exploring a Trade with Pittsburgh, Pettersson for Rosen.

Heh, that sounds familiar. :D
I'd be thrilled if Buffalo explored Marcus Pettersson - obviously thinking to extend him - for someone like Rosen. I don't care that he's not a RHD, I do care that he's a great defender.

Hmmmm... oh yeah.

JJP has gained some playmakimg skills, it seems? He did set up Quinn a lot in the A, so he did have some basis for it.

I thought it was silly to think Adams would trade for a pending UFA but it could be like the Pesce situation where he’s allowed to discuss a potential extension before trading. And who knows, maybe Pettersson is amenable.

Elias and Marcus
for
Cozens + Mitts + Rosen

Is very nice work, if MP is extended.

What if Adams is offering Cozens+Byram for EP40 + [mid level pick or prospect] and Allvin wants Byrum, Krebs, Rosen, and 2025 1st for EP40?
Then Adams should accept Allvin's counter offer, with the stipulation of top 5 protection on the 1st.

If I had an ounce of optimism, I would wonder if the holdup is possibly getting MP's extension framework worked out so the whole thing happens at once. Maybe there is a piece (Hoglander?) going to Pittsburgh in all of this if they are trying that too. Hoglander seems like one of those scrappy worker types who thrive on Crosby's wing.

I don't know, I'm mostly pessimistic now or perhaps just a sad realist. :biglaugh: Figure we get lead along and nothing happens.

Or Marcus’s decision could be held up by wanting to know if the other Pettersson would be there? I guess that’s a longer shot…but yeah, there is likely one domino holding things up.

I feel like that domino is most likely Vancouver deciding wtf they want to do, but there are some other potential possibilities too.

It could be all dependent on Jet Woo being included for all we know haha.
