The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

If Vancouver is more interested in a lesser C than Cozens and the 2025 1st, I can understand why this deal isn't done yet. I could see Adams having zero interest in moving that pick, even with top 5 protection.

[Qualifier: I would be OK with moving that pick in that deal with top 5 protection. But, we have seen Adams miss out on deals because he wasn't willing to move Kulich, so it wouldn't surprise me if Adams feels that their 2025 1st is untouchable.]

If both sides are in agreement on Cozens+Byram for EP40 as the core of the deal, I wonder what the hold up really is. Is Vancouver not going to pull the trigger if Adams wants a 3rd or a mid-level prospect added to the deal?
For me I think it’s a matter of deciding on Vancouver’s end who they want to move.

With the talk of future pieces they could flip, it makes me wonder if Vancouver wants the Sabres 2025 pick because that would be a piece that they could easily flip in a secondary trade to improve their NHL roster.

Cozens and Byram are not those kinds of pieces.
I have no problem with trading 2025 1st with protection in top 5, there are not many players I like there. But Adams needs to decide if he wants to keep drafting and losing and lose his best players in 1-2 years or if he wants to build it right this time. 1C like EP40 don't get traded that often.

I don't even understand what part Adams wants from the Canucks and why, there may be interesting players there, but target is to get EP40 and if necessary, compromise or overpay a little.

If the ask is Power and Krebs, Adams needs to get over the desire to add more from Vancouver.
The ask is clearly Byram and Cozens as it’s been repeated by no fewer than 3 or 4 sources. I think framework is set, and Vancouver is just deciding if they want to pull the trigger.

Is this just based on "not even 2C" quote, or did I miss something?
Cozens might not be a center, I think that’s what his comment referred to.

It's not just who they want to move, but what are their options with both guy.

Miller holds a ton of the cards with the full NMC.
It’s who they want to move…considering the options available.

A person usually wouldn’t need to say the second part because it’s implied, but glad you stepped in to clarify what everyone else already understood.

I could see Adams wanting a defenseman back. Buffalo is left with a hole if Byram is gone.

That being said he could fill it from another team but I am sure Adams will be exhausted by the time the trade goes down and will need a little break.

Most of the reporting I have seen has made it sound like Buffalo's offer is Cozens + Byram.

There has been very little on what Vancouver's response has been,

But there's no one there that we need. Willander is a prospect and he's in college, and I doubt he's asking for Hronek, we can find defensema in another deals.

They may want to move Miller and they hold onto him because there are no good offers from teams that he would accept a trade to. In which case, they might have to move EP40 instead.

It's not as simple for Vancouver as who they would rather keep given the NMC they gave Miller.

See....everything I've read says that Cozens and Byram is the ASK from Allvin.
I haven't read anything like that.

Dreger has said that Adams is willing to part with Cozens and Byram. He has not said that Vancouver asked for them.

EF said something similar.

Friedman brought up the possibility of the Sabres trading Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Elias Pettersson. However, it is crucial to note that Friedman stressed that this was just an idea he came up and not something the Sabres and Canucks are believed to be discussing.

All the stuff from Vancouver has been talking about their needs at C and D in an EP40 trade. But, there is nothing specific on Cozens or Byram vs other centers and D the Sabres could give up in a deal.

Call call up Ryan Johnson who cares about a replacement this year?

Hey I am 100% on board. If I am adams I don't f*** around. You get Pettersson and then dance around you got a 1C to build around. Then worry about the roster.

You will also have time this season to try different options in attack with Pettersson with an eye on next season, while at the same time you will improve your defense and trade UFA at TDL or even acquire some players at TDL.

Again, it is obvious and implied. Why do find this obvious fact so important that you have to repeat it ad museum? It doesn’t change a single point mentioned in any of the posts you’re responding to.

What they truly “want” to do might be limited by their options, yes, like literally everything else is life.

There are several other sources too…there’s nothing about other centers or D because they seem to have the framework of a deal firmly established with Buffalo, should Vancouver definitively decide to move EP. They will use that basis to see if other GMs will give more.

Would the Cozens Byram deal need some work around the edges if they do decide to make a trade? Sure, but the framework seems agreed upon and has been for a while.

I was only playing devils advocate to what Adams is doing.

I did see an article that Adams was asking for more than Pettersson.

For me just keep the deal basic as you can and just for Pettersson. The season is over, worry about roster building in the offseason.

That is not what Dreger or Friedg have said as recently as yesterday.

Even Chad D has talked about it more as the basis of the Sabres offer and less of a basis of a deal that Vancouver is on board with.

I don't get why either the Sabres or the Canucks are going to walk away from a deal over a mid-level prospect or a 3rd or 4th round pick if that is what Adams is asking for.

It would be dumb for Adams to miss out on the best player in the deal over that.

It would be dumb for Vancouver to miss out on a package they like over that.

Again, I don't know what Adams is asking for and whether it's true at all. Target is to get 1C, forget about some small additions if this is a stumbling block.

I'm starting to worry that Kevyn is trying to bring in some prospect the Canucks don't want to part with (Willander or Lekkerimaki), he's obsessed with prospects and young players.
