The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

Guys like Petterson... term, no trade protection, prime age center, first line talent are not available that often. I really hope it gets done. I think the reslotting of the top 6 and the improvement to the power play would be huge for the team.

Friedman’s words don’t say they are favorites to land EP, just that they are one of the teams involved.
Because it’s coming from Adams.

Adams has selectively leaked to Friedmann pretty regularly over the past few years. And I think he’s a good source because Friedmann always ends up kind of apologizing on air if he says something that hurts buffalo’s position (he apologized for putting Cozens + Byram out there because Adams got upset).

I think Friedmann values the info he gets so he tries to keep Adams happy. It’s a two-way street that has so far not really helped Adams, outside maybe the Eichel deal.

I just think if they do next to nothing again Dahlin, Thompson and Tuch will be gone in the next 1-2 years and we will have another rebuild that will last forever and never end. Of course Adams shouldn't do it but Terry is too stubborn and just making fun of Sabres fans.

Being a favorite is subjective but word choice and how he parlayed how he thought Carolina was going to be landing him and now he wonders about Buffalo certainly implies as much.

Also… the graphic

Friedman very carefully chooses his words especially in regards to Buffalo.

There’s a difference in being a favorite, something Friedman doesn’t imply, and being involved which he does.

He carefully chose his words to say Buffalo is involved in the talks about EP. That’s it. But fans will, like clockwork, read way too much into it and come to a conclusion they HOPE will come true. And what will happen, when EP goes somewhere else, is that Buffalo fans will just say they were using Buffalo as leverage to drive the value up.

It’s the same song and dance when dealing with a source that’s gets paid for clicks and is a tool for NHL executives and agents.

Why would Friedman risk his own credibility by naming anybody the favorite if he's not 100%? It's unnecessary by him to do and only damages his own image if the trade isn't imminent.

I mean, in every big name available, it becomes 'leaked' that the Sabres are interested.

Wouldn't shock me if he told Friedman himself his the #1 contender for Pettersson while he last talked to vancouver in 2022.
Exactly, every time a player is available a tight lipped Buffalo office is named that they are interested yet the player is never landed. Just off the top of my head Buffalo was interested in Ehlers, Necas, Pettersson, Chychrun.

He’s a media pundit at the end of the day. His credibility isn’t going to factor into anything. Hell, his credibility is for entertainment purposes only. He can always fall back on the ever changing of things if he’s wrong. The only way fans can challenge said credibility is if other media members ask management teams, but even then those management teams might be denying they are involved for their own benefit.

And again, he didn’t say anything about Buffalo being the favorite. He just said Buffalo was a team in the mix.

Where would anyone ever get the idea he was talking about the possibility of Buffalo being the favorite?

It’s Favourite!

You sound like you understand roster building in a very Kevyn Adams way

I understand the stupidity of blowing prospect pool on short term players that might help make the playoffs but never be as cup contender.
Well, Friedman recently reported that Adams has been in talks with the Canucks for several weeks. Maybe he really was talking about EP40 then, and now that he seems available again, Friedman called the Sabres the favorite for that.

EP is right age, under contract, and cant block a trade.

If you add re vancouver and you trade EP...

You would trade him to an eastern team

Teans Within the east has the ability to return decent pieces..buffalo is one ok f only a few without getting into crazy/ unlikely deals

I’m just going to assume this is Adam’s acting like he’s trying to do something (and ultimately doing nothing). Much like the Chychrun and Necas rumors.

Fabbro doesn't need to be a top 4 d on another team. He needs to be a top 4 d on team he is on and he has been twice now for 2 different teams. And he could've been for the Sabres. The Sabres need defensively responsible rhd. Fabbro was a cheap, good fit.

Depends on the pressure from the owner and his job at stake. But inaction will likely start a chain of events that will ultimately make things worse.

If you can acquire the Pettersson brothers for anything short of a massive overpay you should do it. Marcus will no doubt re-sign if Elias is here. It's the kinda franchise altering moves this team needs.

That said, Kevyn and Pegula still being here would still be a seemingly unsurmountable problem.

The only thing is that they are not brothers, just like the other Elias Pettersson, who also plays in Vancouver with Elias Pettersson.

I am even trading away the 1st pick to get Pettersson. I dont think the top 4 players in the draft are going to be better but thats just a guess. Obviously it will cost more than the 1st but are we going to wait 2-3 years for that player to make a difference or trade for Pettersson who still has 7-8 years left of hockey
