Those 2 guys also play together. I think their other pairing has more offensive impact
Obviously it makes sense that the guys in a pairing will have a similar impact when they're on ice together, but the kings have put 2 guys with a history of bigger defensive impacts together, and 2 guys with historically more offensive impacts together.
makes me wonder if the real defensive defenseman is what power actually needs in a partner.
They play in a pair until Doughty as I understand it. Before this, it seemed to me that Anderson always played in a pair with Doughty, and Gavrikov probably with Clarke. It is obvious to me that our defense is very unbalanced. We already tried playing Power - Byram and it was terrible in terms of stats, Jokiharju and Bryson are just bad and not top 4 defensemen, at least for me. Samuelsson was bad in the third pair at the beginning of the season then got injured again, Dahlin played with an injury the whole season. I think our defense was chaos. But I definitely do not want to pair Power with an offensive defenseman, it literally makes no sense.
We need to find the right partner for Power if we want it to be easier for him to develop , they can be of different types. It could be a guy like Carlo or Murphy, or a fast player like Spence. Or someone like Kovacevic or Kesselring. Or a seasoned, reliable vet like TVR, who seems like a computer, plays consistently well on defense, and may be an underrated player even at his age.
I think a GM can have a lot of options, you just have to be creative and not be afraid to make trades. Our GM does everything the other way around.
