Go get two of those centers and watch this team take off

Been saying it for a while , this teams biggest issue is the top 6, and not having good enough centers

How they have just refused to address the center position or be comfortable with tage and cozens as your top 6 centers boggles my mind - it's up there with how they handled goaltending the previous decade
I think defense deserves at least the same attention, if not more. Many of our defenseman have poor defense, even Byram's metrics have started to go down. Clifton has been bad lately, Power is not good defensively, Jokiharju and Bryson are just bad. Only Dahlin has decent and positive metrics in both offense and defense.

It likely does, but I believe even defensively your centers are killing this team

Willing to see how this defense would look with 4 quality centers

You also likely could change up the defense cheaper with mid round picks easier than centers

Well they added McLeod, we have Tage. Cozens? Well I still can't figure out if he's a center or not, maybe he'd be better with good wingers around him or not. I agree it's important for us to get a top 6 C, I just also would like to get two RDs or one LD, one RD if we end up trading one of Byram/Power and Dahlin can still play RD for example. I can't count on Samuelsson as a legiti top 4 D or even a top pairing guy anymore.

Yeah moving one of Byram or power without bringing in any top 4 talent definitely leaves an opening on defense

Ideally to get top 6 center talent is be looking to trade Quinn/cozens/prospects in roch/picks

Clifton has been terrible lately too by the way.

Laine actually has a very solid stats in Columbus over the last three years, almost a PPG pace. Given our situation, they could have easily taken the flyer instead of just giving up and standing on all fours like Adams did.
Laine was traded for pennies on the dollar. Its amazing to see Sabres fans post Laine sucks as they defend Quinn, Cozens and Peterka our 2nd line.

Well I just don't see the point in keeping Dahlin, Power and Byram on the team, three PMD, and Byram was only decent when paired with Dahlin. But Byram seems to want to be 1D, maybe on another team, I don't know. Ideally I would like to trade one of Byram/Power and build the defense properly. We also need to cut the number of young players in our attack in half, right now we have six young players playing in our top 9, that's a lot, we need to add the right vets.

Laine's problem is his injuries/mental health, that's probably the risk. But I'm definitely not defending Cozens, Peterka and Quinn, they haven't been able to handle a consistent top 6 role, and even more so in helping to defense.

.
We are on the same page with what needs to be done - more actual NHL players less prospects in your line up

I'm trying to short cut the reconfiguring of the team by concentrating on just the offense with hopes that the talent on defense gets chemistry and starts to work well with each other

But I'm trying to solve both problems because I don't like our defense at all and I said that before the season.

Anyone see the goal Laine scored yesterday? Broke Seider's stick in half and in the net it was so hard. Crazy stuff.

For thought who have never played or coached, there’s a HUGE reason teams take centers high in the draft and seek to get good centers. Puck support and puck possession is a result of what you have at center. The Sabres are bad at both because their centers aren’t really good at knowing where to be and when to be there.

Good centers ease the burden for the rest of the team. Ask Boston.

Thompson - winger turned center strictly for his offense. Zero results of development showing of having a clue in playing the defensive side of the puck.

Cozens - Center prospect fast tracked to the NHL level with the same amount of dedication to proper development as Thompson granted. Same issues come up.

If the offer was really Cozens and Byram for Pettersson, I’m taking that all day. Seems too good to be true.

I’d look to try to move Power to Anaheim. Zegras and McTavish struggling there.

Thompson to Calgary for 1 (2?) of their defenseman?

Playing d with bad centers is near impossible. It's easier to work around a bad d partner than a bad center.

The season is basically over if not going on a 10 game W streak
We're saving the win streak until we're eliminated from the playoffs. It's tradition.
