Of course getting Jiricek shouldn't affect adding a top 4 RD in any way. It's a priority.

I’m fine trading prospect for prospect for Jiricek. We still have more highly drafted forwards than will ever play here in the pipeline.

But that deal has zero to do with their need at top 4 D right now. If they believe Jiricek will be one long term…great. Go get him.

Then do something to help he actual team now.
My opinion also. If we can use a prospect or prospects to acquire him that doesn’t effect us getting a top 4 defenseman for out active roster, why not.

To me, he's potentially a more physical version of Byram with a good shot. In any case, he still needs to work on his defense, skating, and leg strength in the AHL.
Just not a trade I really see KA making.

If Quinn is actually sitting tomorrow, that may be something to keep and eye on ?

I mean I don't see any deals from KA at all, he just rarely trades. But this deal would make sense to me. We have too many forward prospects, some of them will probably never even sniff the NHL like the Sabres. It reminds me of LA and Rob Blake with his prospect pool, when all these young and talented forwards were in the AHL for too long and then almost all of them went broke. RD is a very rare position, you can even see it on our roster, and when a young player like Jiricek is available, why not try to get him. Sure, we can wait another 4-5 years for all our young RDs to get to the NHL, but I think Jiricek will be there much faster, and his ceiling is much higher than any of our defensive prospects.

I don't think it's related to the trade, it's just that Ruff decided sit Quinn in press-box, although it's weird that he did it now and not 5-7 games ago.

A big RHD vet would be great. A vet that will get their heads together when they are down is needed. Zucker seems to raise the collective of all the forwards when he brings us back into a game.
But where can we find one like that now, and one that he is good at defense and available?

I'm curious why Columbus isn't getting impatient with him, but if the following from Seravelli is true, the Sabres make a lot of sense. I suspect he will have a lot of interest. The Sabres have a lot of what Columbus is looking for. It just may not be a guy like Quinn. If they want a center, could be someone like Ostlund, if they want a D in return, it could be someone like Johnson.

Seravalli adds that the CBJ are looking for "a young, top-end pick or prospect or potentially a package of players that the Columbus Blue Jackets and their fanbase can get excited about."

Looking a little closer at the player and the Sabres depth, I think Quinn is about the best they could do. 2022 was very recent and I would think that 6OA slot they took Jiricek is going to get a better return than what the Sabres can offer.

It's kind of a head-scratcher they would give up on a 2022 so fast until you take into account the Gaudreau loss and now maybe they want to get better depth in their top 6.

Depends on what other teams can offer.

To be honest I don't think Vegas sells anyone off and why would they when they are going for a Stanley Cup. I just see people talking about him.

Buffalo will probably be looking at fringe or out of the playoff teams to make a trade.
Would love to get my dirty big hands on Korczak, though.
Ok that sounds kind of wrong, but my point stands.

Bakes and Fairburn talked about Kreider's game being a good fit with Thompson and Tuch.

That does intrigue me a bit more than when I first thought about it.

The challenges to a deal are not minimal. Obviously, there is the 15 team No-Trade list that Kreider has. Then there is the fact that they are a playoff team and will want NHL talent back in the deal.

With the Trouba rumors and the Rangers issues on D, I wonder if Jokiharju could be the base of a Sabres offer? Bakes and Fairburn also threw Krebs out there as a guy who might have some trade value.

I think Krebs or Jokiharju would be interesting starting points if Drury and Adams are talking.

I thought we needed more of a playmaker in the top 6, but a guy like Kreider could be useful in front of net with his experience. But there are still concerns because of his age and contract, he hasn't been as productive in terms of points this season.

Do they need high-end prospect RD or do they need effective NHL-level RD?
I think they could use both, quite honestly.

Especially with only one RHD (until they do the obvious thing and sign Metsa to double that number) in Rochester. They have the 4 draftees coming (Strbak, McCarthy, Kleber, and Brunet), but they are farther away from being NHL-ready than Jiricek.

If Columbus want a F back who was a top 10 pick, then I could see it being a move that the Sabres pass on. But, I wouldn't be mad if Adams made two moves like this:

Krebs for Jiricek
Jokiharju+ for Kreider

Yes, Jiricek doesn't immediately address the need in the top 4. But, I also don't think making a medium term move like that is an idea to not look at if the opportunity presents itself.

If Jiricek blossoms into a top 10 worthy pick at RHD in a couple of seasons and you didn't make that move...

When Risto and Trouba are the RHD names on the trade market.

It is interesting that the Jackets seem to be "adjusting" their ask on Jiricek...

You are vastly overrating Krebs value.
