I don't get the idea of adding another high drafted D-man to the organization. We've got so many tweeners already on our roster. We need immediate help, not "maybe some help at some point if things go OK"

If they trade for Jiricek out of the prospect pool it makes a lot of sense. They don't have any high end D prospects. They have some high end young defensive NHL'ers.

None of whom are right handed.

This isn't a roster player for CBJ so they don't need a roster player back.

The Sabres have 14 D signed to NHL deals today.

11 of them are left shots.

So, adding a highly drafted RHD has some attraction to me even if he wouldn't immediately make the NHL roster markedly better.

Like any trade, it would all come down to what the other team wants. I wouldn't immediately dismiss something like Quinn for Jiricek given where the Sabres are at today and all the young forward they have coming.

Is Pens going to offer McGroarty? Not sure if the Flyers have good options, though it might not be exactly a prospect. Wild and San Jose have interesting trade options, as do we.
I can't imagine they'd flip him that quickly.

If you think you can unlock the potential, take the swing. Not sure if they can, but at some point there needs to be some conviction

This does not affect the addition of a top 4 RD for the main roster. Maybe there are simply no options on the market right now? Maybe Adams does not want to add a top 4 RD right now. Jiricek is another matter, in the near future he could become our RD in the top pair.

The board wanted Rossi (me too), mostly it seems, but I can't say Quinn is a bad player, he was just unlucky with injuries. In Rochester he was very good, in the NHL he showed his potential, but maybe the injuries affected him, it's not easy.
I was very vocal wanting Lundell. Also very vocal wanting Beniers over Power.
Ostlund and a 2nd for Jiricek
Mods - it's a day's suspension for creating a trade offer which includes Ostlund.

The talk of it being a package makes me think it isn't Quinn being offered.
I don't understand why Waddell is not more patient with sticking to a good 1 for 1 trade. Lots of recent examples that teams can pull this off.

I dont think he's what we need (Jiricek) tbh without top 3 playing well right now. Insiders/agents using Buffalo's/KA as usual for leverage.
I think he's the guy we need in the near future. If you have the ability to get him and you have a big pipeline of forwards prospects, you go for it, Imo.

That's not to say we don't need a top 4 RD right now, but these two deals are not related, especially since I keep getting told that no one is trading right now, especially a top 4 RD. I have my own list of all the potential options for that position, and even I admit it's pretty tough to do right now.

No idea. I like the idea of a player like Jiricek in a vacuum. I don't like the actuality of Jiricek in the real world for the Sabres at this time. They need an NHL play killer, not someone who still needs work.

1 on 1 deals do not always work, also, you can even get such a valuable thing as a 1 on 1 deal in a package. Example: PLD for Vilardi, Iafallo and Kupari.

Do they need high-end prospect RD or do they need effective NHL-level RD?

They could still use a high end D prospect, especially one that is right handed. My assumption is that they're not acquiring him for the big team. If he'd be equally unhappy here in Rochester Adams should pass.
