Every team in the Eastern Conference is within 3 points of a playoff spot today.

Only 5 teams in the Western Conference are 4 points or more outside of a playoff spot today. And only 3 that are 5 points or more out of a playoff spot.

I wouldn't be shocked if there were not a lot of GMs that are ready to sell off a top 6 forward for futures today.

And I don't think too many fans want a Mitts for Byram kind of even deal that helps in one area and hurts in another. But, that might be the kind of deals out there today.
Who said futures? You can trade roster player for roster player.

Adams said he will make any trade that will make the team better. Its been 2 years and you think its about what you posted?

I don't see a roster player for roster player deal that makes the Sabres roster much better immediately.

Those kinds of deals either add a quality player, but create a sizable hole in the lineup (Mitts for Byram as Exhibit A) or it's a struggling player for struggling player change of scenery move.

Neither one is like the McLeod deal that made the Sabres NHL roster immediately better. And THAT is the kind of deal the Sabres need right now.

This team needs a physical top 4 Stay at home defender. Joker and Bryson just aren't going to cut it and Sammy can't stay healthy.

We already have 3 puck moving defensemen.

Adams has allowed the hole in our defense since Dahlin got here.

You sound like Kevyn Adams. 5 years of no playoffs.

Ever hear a GM keep his job by saying there are no trades to be made? Thats unacceptable and GMs get fired with that excuse.

Lots of defensemen get moved for 2nd round picks or less.

Wasn't Marino traded for 2 2nds? Didn't we have 2 2nds?

I see deals like that, I mean there are different deals, but you can always find them, that's what other teams do. I see a deal like McLeod too.

I think it's a little bit early for trades for futures with how the standings are bunched up unless it's one of a few bottom dwellers. If we're still in the thick of it after the all star break and we aren't making moves I'll start to be concerned. Adams should be willing to move 1st round picks, prospects, whatever it takes to make the playoffs this year. The losing has to stop at some point.

Pretty much this. Adams has a hard enough time doing a player for picks deal, not sure why we want him to up the difficulty factor on himself.

Find a team selling what you want and buy with futures. We've got plenty.

I think it's never too early for a team in our position, we have too many prospects, including in Rochester. I think you're always looking for ways to improve the team, especially when there's an injury epidemic and you need new resources to win.

And he seems to have already realized this and it worked when he traded Savoie for McLeod.

When was Marino traded?

There are two main windows for player movement in the NHL:

The 3-4 weeks that is the week leading up to the draft through mid-July

The 3-4 weeks prior to the trade deadline

Outside those two windows, trades become rare and it is a lot harder to find a trade partner.

Since opening night, there have been a total of 5 trades involving NHLers. And one of them involved future considerations.

You can pitch a fit all you want, but that doesn't make other GMs willing to make trades that improve the Sabres right away.

Windows...lol enough said. You are the one throwing the fit protecting Kevyn Adams failures. You should give him a call and let him know he is wasting his time outside of your windows. I am sure he will appreciate it.

Sorry my opinion triggers you.

As an example, here are when the Ducks made trades last year:

Last trade of the offseason: Boosh from Buffalo on August 18th.

Then they made the Drysdale + 2nd for Gauthier deal on January 8th.

And then they made 4 TDL deals starting with Boosh to Carolina on February 29th.

I doubt they are open for business right now.

As a fan, you have zero idea who other GMs are actually willing to move at this point in time.

GMs don't make tons of moves at this point in the season.
Just like you have no idea, but even at this time there are some trades, although there are not many of them.

And you have zero idea but you certainly are trying to convince us otherwise cause windows.

Well, there's no way to prove it, they may be open to certain deals, but not all, just like any other team. A smart GM will always listen to your offer, because it may be quite profitable for him in the short or long term.

That's my whole point. It's really hard to make deals now because it is outside the timeframe where GMs are usually open for business.

There is a difference between a trade being likely and a trade being possible at this point in the season.

This is the time of the year where it is a lot harder to get a deal done than closer to the deadline when more teams have decided to be sellers.

And you have zero idea but you certainly are trying to convince us otherwise cause windows.
While past performance does not guarantee future outcomes, it should set reasonable expectations.

So what are saying is trades do happen any time of the year except between the trade deadline to end of playoffs.

You are arguing probabilities and the probability is not zero.

You are just arguing for the sake of arguing

I like T Freddy, but he is a bottom 6 guy and not really what the Sabres need today.
I disagree, he's a top 9 guy who averaged 31 and 41 points in recent seasons, played a physical and grit game, and can play center or wing, yeah, we could use a hell of a player like that. It's interesting what Zito was thinking when he traded for Bennett, who "allegedly" fell off a cliff and wasted his time in the bottom 6.

But as we see, deals occur regularly, there are not many of them, but they exist, so it is quite possible.

A reasonable expectation? Yours not mine and I don't need to have yours. A reasonable expectation is it doesn't take 5 years a GM and 3 coaches to make the playoffs

Here is a question.
Did Adams come out last week and say open for business?

.or did he come out last week and say trades are too hard?

Exactly, Jimbob is trying to say cause trades happen less they won't happen but they do happen.

He is just arguing over nothing.

Until there is more differentiation in terms of points, seems unlikely that many teams will be moving much for now. With the strength of schedule being in Buffalo's favor right now, if they can bide their time into early December when some of the possible sellers may be a bit more clear.
There are teams that already know that they are not competing, there are those deals where there may be a change of scenery. Someone wants to shake things up, the situation in the east is a little different than in the west, so there is a possibility that it is easier to trade with a western team now, although this is logical.
