Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Well, since Power's debut we haven't had a partner for him.
I'm not sure it's impossible, he's playing third pair, they don't have any picks, prospects, their core is aging fast. For me it's just a question of whether Peeke is fit to play in the top 4.
Well, apparently this doesn't suit Ruff and he already hinted about it to Adams.

I'm not sure I believe that anymore. I don't see Jokiharju being here after the deadline at the absolute latest.

I don't think it made any sense, it was clear from the start that Power and Byram weren't the best idea. Especially when Ruff needs a more balanced defense and doesn't like that we don't actually have a righty in the top 4. I hope Ruff puts some pressure on Adams.

I'd still like to see Power and Sammy get some extended run as the 2nd pair. We know that Dahlin and Sammy worked (at least for a while) as that pair where either one could play either side and Sammy basically played off Dahlin.
With Byram/Dahlin looking solid as our 1st pair, Power/Sammy could be that 2nd pair. Maybe. Possibly.

I think we don't can count on Samuelsson, I mean, you can keep him in mind as an insurance option, but in reality we need a top 4 RD. Sammy was terrible at the beginning of the season and got injured again.

Couple of things here:
1.) Sammy is 24 years old. Just because he wasn't good at the beginning of the season doesn't mean that he's now all of a sudden not good. My guess is that he was thinking too much about what Ruff wanted and not just playing. That SHOULD go away as he plays more.
2.) Mittelstadt was injury prone until he wasn't. There are PLENTY of guys in the NHL who were injury prone earlier in their career....until they weren't. The guy that most resembles Sammy is Tanev -- could NOT stay healthy early in his career but now only misses an occasional game here and there.
I am not, in any way, ready to give up on him.
The issue is whether Samuelsson will play hard or be worried about injuries. He's useless if he doesn't play hard and physical.

Well, for now, that's it. I haven't buried Sammy, we just can't count on him right now, especially as a top 4 D. That's why we need top 4 RD.
I also want to add to my previous comment that we need at least one right-handed player in the top 4. Ruff has already said this, that he doesn't like it when a guy plays on the wrong side. I think it matters and there is not a single team in the NHL where all the top 4 defensemen are left-handed.

I agree that we need a top 4 RHD. And we as fans can call for it, hope for it, demand it, etc......but until Adams goes out and gets one, we're stuck with what we have.

Well we can wait another five years for Adams to come out and be a top 4 RD.
I just hope Ruff puts some pressure on Adams in that regard, Lindy has character and he's an icon in Buffalo and not just some Adams coach.
I agree they need a top 4 D but I'm also not interested in trading picks and prospects for guys like Kovacevic. Yes it worked out for the Devil's but there's no guarantee it would work for the Sabres. He couldn't crack Montreal's top 4.
It makes no sense to go after guys that other didn't fit other teams in hopes they fit here. It makes more sense to go after the teams out of the playoffs and grab a top 4 D from them.

What's the problem with Kovacevic? I don't understand how that makes Kovacevic a bad player, it's just that one team saw value in him and the other didn't. That's what's called good work by the GM, his scouts and analysts, even if they just guessed and got lucky, but it's low risk and high reward. They spent the 4th on this, not the 1st or an elite prospect.

I wish there was public AHL TOI data to see if he's even a top 4 D on the Amerks right now.
Adams did him dirty by sending him down last season. Can't just bounce people back and forth with no impact on their psyche.

(I think Novikov has been playing better than Johnson, but I'm fine giving him more AHL experience)
I have not liked Clague ATOLL in Rochester again. Rathbone does everything Clague does, faster and smarter IMO.
And yeah, it's passed time to sign Metsa.
