I mean, most of the roster are his 'talented young players'

The only real movable piece right now is Joker, and his value is probably at rock bottom currently given he's a regular healthy scratch with a 3M salary.

You COULD move Greenway, but I think most would argue he isn't part of the problem

Samuelsson is a problem, but with 4 years left at 4M for a regular healthy scratch, can't imagine he has much of a market.

If he wants to make a significant add, Adams is going to have to move some of his prospect hoard.
I think we could get a good top 4 RD for Joki/Sammy + 1st + prospect.

Joker/Sammy don't carry much value if they are being healthy scratch.

Joker might be taken on by a team out of the playoffs to try to rehabilitate and flip at the deadline

Samuelsson's contract makes it doubtful teams will roll a dice on him at this point. Oft injured and 5 years of term left. Likely buyout with the 25 and under clause this summer unless he makes big strides this through the rest of the season.

Feeling justified in my summer panic to offload Samuelsson for dimes on the dollar. Could have and should have done it then, while bringing in a short-term vet replacement.

He's just never been my guy. He's slow upstairs and unfortunately has some NHL bloodline cake-eaterness to him. And he is undoubtably injury-prone now.

I don't think he's in buyout territory yet, but Adams needs to jump on the first chance to thin out our future cap commitments on D.

You understand that Sammy/Joki is not the main part of the deal, we just need to trade some of the defensemen so that there is place for a new player.

You aren't doing anything with Samuelsson....yet.

If he comes off injury and plays well in a top 4 spot, of course you aren't buying him out. Even if he's a stalwart PKer with Clifton, there's value to that role as if he does well.

But if he struggles to stay in the lineup, even when healthy, its a no brainer buyout. You can't beat out Bryson and Gilbert for a spot....time to go. 10 years at 700k or 5 more years at 4M. 7M vs 21M. That is a 14M diceroll that he's going to become a top 4 guy at 25 when he's had nothing but opportunity to stay in the top 4 here.

I’m not even arguing your logic. It makes sense. I just can’t get past how wild it would be to buy out a 25 year old with 5 x 4 left. With that, I think they hold off until they have to make a decision and hope he rebounds in the meantime.

Chicago, San Jose and Anaheim really feel like the perfect trade partners when it comes to organizations matching up.

They are in another conference
They are in the midst of a rebuild so older players would be available and Buffalo needs to add experienced players(not scrubs past their prime)
The age of our younger players line up with their rebuild process

On the downside of that they don't have much talent.

I think for some, it's a contract thing. I think for others, they are butt-hurt about Mittens.
Give him what you are paying Sammy and Joker. Fill in with ELC and cheaper vets. Keep Byram and trade for a steady somewhat physical RD that can PK. Same need for last 3 years.

The buyout at 25 is 1/3rd of the contract spread out over 2x the remainder

A buyout next summer is 750k-ish a year for 10 years

A buyout at 26+ is 2/3rd of the contract spread out over 2x the remainder

A buyout in 2026 is 1.5M-ish a year for 8 years.

When Adams gets fired who is the next GM of the sabres? Does it matter until Pegula sells the team?

Who is replacing urinal cakes at HarborCenter right now? They may not know how to do the job…but that hasn’t been a recent requirement for the position. And they always have a smile for Terry when they pass each other.

Karmanos and Ventura each get a promotion. You're not getting some extensive search.

It may actually work out - at least Karmanos has extensive experience in the league.
Anything can work. Except nothing. Nothing doesn’t work. We’ve spent five straight years trying nothing. We’ve exhausted all of the nothing we can do.

At this point a real move would be the first true sign anyone there might actually face the consequences of their shitty work. Which I would gladly lose a trade to believe. I need to have hope again.

This front office shouldn't give a crap about "losing a trade." As long as you're not trading, like, Dahlin for Scott Laughton, you should do *whatever it takes* it to improve the roster right now.
