At this point, get Couts and deal with the ramifications in 4 years.
He is in year 3 of an 8 year deal. He is playing well to start the season, but there is no way I would want the Sabres to add him given that contract and his inability to stay healthy and productive lately.

Thankfully, his full NTC clause likely means that there is zero chance Adams can trade for him.

It'll be interesting to see if Cozens comes alive on the wing, or if he sinks McLeod and Greenway. I think this line has a decent chance of working out well.

On the other hand, I'm expecting Quinn to drag Zucker and Krebs down. I think i'd rather see one of Kulich/Malestyn/NAK in that spot until Quinn snaps out of it.

I'm in 100% agreement on this. There are several players that could/need to step things up, but Quinn has been by far to me the biggest black-hole dragging things down around him this season.

Dregs today on Sabres Live:
Kevin Adams is working diligently at looking for a roster upgrade.

And Dregs is watching two players in particular very closely on whether they have a long term in Buffalo in Byrum and Krebs.
The Byram speculation makes sense given cap and roster construction concerns. With the right pieces added there could be an interesting hockey trade in the making.

Look…I don’t care what happens to Byram tbh. The trade never made a lick of sense to me outside of kicking the paying a player can down the road another year. Now they can try to kick that can too. Because of course. The problem is they had a more valuable asset when they started this dog and pony show. An asset they desperately need right now btw. Do you really trust that Adams is going to pull off a good trade when the main goal is not to pay a player again this off-season?

All those years of saving cap being told it was to pay these players. Cool story. Hope no one bought it.

Zucker and Krebs have been playing just fine.

I wouldn't call that a misfit line at all.....certainly nowhere near the level of our previous misfit lines.

They’re a misfit line by every definition: players who just aren’t essential to any other line. They are third men in a forward corps designed around pairs.

They’ve been playing well for a few games, and mediocre this season overall. They’re not players who have been particularly hot anytime in recent years, for any notable durations, nor are they players who have a track record of jump starting struggling young players. They’re a misfit line.

I see the standings have shifted back to what we're used to - Buffalo tied for last in the division. The only surprise at the moment is that the Bruins are in that four-way tie with them.

Ruff trying to get something working on the 2nd line:

Too bad Ruff wasn't here earlier otherwise Kevin might have gotten the memo that Cozens might be not a 2C or C at all

Trading Byram for a second line centre would be very funny
We can count ourselves lucky if we're able to flip him for a serviceable 2C. I don't have that much faith in Adams.
Then we can compare his stats to Casey for the rest of their careers. Still think we need a top 4 D though and losing Byram would just add to that.
We have that "Top 4, preferably right handed, defensive specialist" shaped hole in the roster whether Byram is traded for a 2c or if he stays.

That fits with 32 Thoughts saying Adams is busy trying to add.
I used to want Adams to make trades but I have zero trust in his ability to build a roster.

Adams could probably have asked a drunk and depressed Sabres fan in any local bar.

I should amend that to the Byram trade making no sense unless they added to the top six. That has been the bigger mistake than shuffling the assets. I can understand wanting to add speed up front. He did that with the bottom six. But he neglected to add it to the top six after moving out Mitts and Skinner. That has been the mistake. Move out the guys who slow it down...fine. But a hole in the roster doesn't move any faster. In fact, it's ground the second line to a complete halt.

Anyone else catch the clip of Greenway talking to Tage at center ice as practice was ending?

Tage said something along the lines of:
"That's how you f***ing work. We play every game with that energy, and no one is f***ing touching us"

Greenway could barely breathe and was soaking his head with water, but nodded in agreement.

The energy of this squad is different than last year. They did not back down from Florida physically or in ratness. Ruff putting the 4th line out at the end of the second do rattle the boards was a good play. A majority of the team has bought into playing hard.

I just think of when Lafferty signed, and told Ruff he wants to see the entire team play physical. And, to be fair, a lot of guys are giving way more effort on both sides of the puck.

I can get behind a team like that if they continue that style of play. If they can get the special teams and goaltending figured out, I think theyre a playoff team. If they can also get 2nd line production from Cozen's line, then we could be even better.

Atleast I don't feel annoyed watching them like last season. They're more likeable this year for sure, but the season's long, so keep at it!

I think we all knew McLeod was taking over 2nd line C. He's the best option. Krebs is getting his shot. I'm a bit concerned about that line. I like Zucker, but Quinn is a black hole, and Im still iffy on Krebs at 3C, but they have to try something.

Actually, Zucker-Krebs-Benson has some potential as a third line. Quinn is just an eye sore on any line atm, which pains me to write.
Is there a link to this clip by any chance?

I'm less concerned about his roster building, more concerned that he's attached to his own picks/prospects. He's had one WTF add - Byram for Mitts - and a couple of ones that so far seem solid in Malenstyn and McLeod.
